Organic Health – An Apple a Day

????????????????????????????????? Hey Earth’s Enrichers

You know what? We think red may be your color, or green, or yellow, how do you feel about all three? What’s with that look? We are talking about your color in fruit—apples, to be exact. Remember, the classic Red Delicious apples, the Granny Smith (green) apples, the Golden Delicious (yellow) apples, and the Gala apples?

We are pretty sure you are wondering why we are talking apples this week. It’s because the old saying may be true. An apple a day could keep the doctor away. The majority of you know that apples are healthy, but how many of you know how healthy? An apple by itself has a ton of benefits for you and your body.

Apples contain many benefits and these benefits can be found in certain areas of the apple. A word to you apple peelers! The skin of the apple is the most beneficial part; skinning it removes about 50% of its healthy charm. Apple skin contains most of the apple’s fiber and antioxidants. The dietary fiber can help reduce the amount of bad cholesterol in your blood. So you may want to stop peeling.

The apple as a whole has benefits like vitamin C and B. The vitamin C in the apple contains potent antioxidants that can help against radicals and boost the body’s immune system (keeping the doctor away^-^). The vitamin B or B-6 along with riboflavin, and thiamin can help maintain the red blood cells and the nervous system.

Other health benefits of apples tend to look after long-term problems like lowering the levels of bad cholesterol and reducing the risk of diabetes and breast cancer. However, with all good things too much can be a problem and result in counterproductive means to getting health.

An apple a day is okay and could keep the doctor away. An apple every day, all day, could give you a one way ticket. Eating apples to often can be bad for your teeth because of the acidity of the fruit. It’s best to eat smart. Also, be careful to not eat the apple seeds; they contain cyanide and can be dangerous if consumed one too many times.

Last, but certainly not least, look after your body. If you are worried about eating apples or if you have diabetes and are not sure which fruits to consume, it is best to consult your doctor. Stay healthy and cool!

The EE 411: How many ways can you eat an apple? 🙂

We’ve checked out some healthy ways to eat a delicious apple. Here is what we came up with:

  1. Natural or organic applesauce
  2. Baked with cinnamon
  3. Mixed in with yogurt (greek or plain)
  4. Sliced
  5. Turned into a milkshake, smoothie, or juiced
  6. Apples + Peanut butter= yum!
  7. Add them to meals like stir fry or salad
  8. Add them to your deli sandwich
  9. Fruit salad
  10. With or in your oatmeal

Also, for your special treat, we were thinking you might want to know what different types of apples were out there and there are so many. Epicurious and Depin Heights both have an extensive log pertaining to the varieties, uses, recipes, seasons, and descriptions of the apple.

Share with Us: Do you have any healthy apple treats or recipes that you’d like to share?

Living Health – Yoga

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Even during those summer days, waking up can be a nightmare especially when it’s early, but what do you do when you wake up? Think about it, the first thing you do is stretch to wake up your muscles. Stretching your muscles is and should be a part of your everyday physical activity and/or exercise.

If your body is getting its preparation, what about your mind? Is there an exercise that prepares your body as well as your mind? Well, there is! You all have heard of yoga, right? Yoga is an exercise and meditation activities that helps you unite your mind and body. It uses techniques or poses to help with your posture, flexibility, and strength. It also teaches you how to breathe during the practice of these particular exercises.

Before we go on to the physical part, let’s talk about the meditation (or the mind exercise) that happens before or during your practice of yoga. Meditation is not always a religious practice; it’s a way of getting your mind together whether you’re contemplating your spirituality or how to make your kids eat their vegetables. It’s a way to get in touch with your body as well. Remember how we always say get to know your body? Meditation can help you with that during the poses in yoga.

When or if beginning yoga for the first time, you may not find it easy for your body and you may discover new things about your body. For instance, you may discover poses that you like or poses you don’t like. This depends on how the poses feels to your body. It also shows you where and how you need to improve physically. It’s challenging but yoga is a progressive exercise practice. When we say “practice,” we mean with more practice comes more improvement. You’ll find, over time, those uncomfortable poses won’t be so uncomfortable anymore.

Yoga inspires stretching and positioning your body in ways that will improve your flexibility. It also encourages you to use muscles you haven’t used or never knew you had. When your yoga instructor directs you to take a specific pose or certain posture, it conjures those dormant muscles. Over time, they build and tone.  For instance, the use of good posture strengthens your core muscles.

If you’re looking for a way to become one with yourself (an exercise for your mind and body), and to progressively improve your fitness (flexibility and strength), give yoga a try. It may be one of the best ways to exercise for you.

The EE 411: For the Newbies 🙂

There are a few things that beginners should keep in mind when starting yoga: (1) how do I prepare for yoga and (2) what type of yoga do I like or is best for me?

How do I prepare for yoga?

  1. Determine if yoga is right for you by checking with your doctor. Medical considerations like hip surgery or pregnancy should be taken into account. Although, it is recommend that those expecting should not practice yoga—still consult a professional.
  2. Keep Hydrated. This is important in general! This is also really important if you are thinking about practicing Hot Yoga or Bikram.
  3. Eat. A rational meal two to three hours before practicing will give you energy to put forth the necessary effort.
  4. Know your limits. Do not perform a task just because everybody else in the class can. If you cannot do it, do not push it to the limit. Do what your body is prepared for; in time your flexibility and strength will improve. Also, know what time of day you are more flexible. For instance if you are your stiffest in the morning, morning yoga classes may not be the best for you.
  5. Warm up! Pre-stretches for ten or fifteen minutes help ready your body for the work it’s going to put in during yoga.

What type of yoga do I like or is best for me?

  • Anusara- Popular and designed in the US, this type of yoga inspires elegance with a focus on alignment.
  • Ashtanga- This style encompasses a series of postures with matching breathing. It is a physically demanding work out, so bring a towel.
  • Bikram –This yoga is heated, literally. It takes place in an artificially heated room. It consists of 26 poses in a sequence. You will sweat—this is another towel demanding yoga practice.
  • Hatcha- This is a generic, universal form of yoga. It is one of the common practices and is generally used for introduction because of its gentle style and more relaxed environment.
  • Hot Yoga- Do not forget your towel! It is similar to Bikram except the sequence of the poses is different, but the room is still heated.
  • Iyengar- this yoga practice is scrupulous and requires you to pay the utmost attention to detail. It requires configuration in your poses. It also summons the use of props during the practice. It requires plenty of discipline and is not for the faint hearted or fidgety.
  • Restorative- Do you consider yourself a nervous person? This yoga works to relax and calm the nerves. This yoga also uses props like blankets and instructs the students to take less disciplined poses. It requires less effort and restores your body to its proper balance.
  • Vinyasa- If you like to dance this may be the yoga for you. Its practice is to incorporate more harmonious movements that are sequenced to flow smoothly. However, the sequences are almost never the same. So, it is less consistent.

Living Healthy – Staying Cool

Young Woman Looking At Sun Drawn On Her Back With Suntan Lotion

Hey Earth’s Enrichers

The summer temperatures are ripe this year! They range from 80 to anywhere in the 90s and above. In this kind of weather, you must bring your A-game of coolness. So we ask you, how are you staying cool in the toaster summer of 2014?

We at EE are natural at staying cool. So this week we are going to let you in on the scoop; that way you’re not burning up out there. It is very important that you keep several things in mind during the summer time heat: (1) the clothes you wear, (2) keeping yourself hydrated, (3) the shoes you wear, (4) your skin’s protection, and (5) keeping an eye on your body’s signals.

In order to prepare for those five things, it is a good idea to know the temperature and the temperature changes throughout the day. Typically, the hottest time of the day is anywhere between 3pm and 6pm. These are the times that you should be most prepared for.

So, when you dress in the morning and you have learned that it will be a very hot day, stray away from wearing black—even if it’s your color! We all know how we look good in black, but we guarantee you it will not feel good in 90 degree weather. It is recommended to wear light colors, because sun rays are drawn to darker ones making it feel way hotter than it is.

Invest in a water bottle, one that you won’t dispose of easily. This way you’re one step closer to sparing the environment and keeping yourself properly hydrated. Try not to leave the house without your icy water-filled bottle. These water bottles can usually hold a minimum of 16 oz. Keeping your body hydrated keeps you from tiring, getting headaches, and possibly getting nauseous while going about your daily activities in the scorching sun.

The right shoes are very necessary. If you’re planning on doing a lot of walking in the hot sun, believe it or not, black sandals aren’t the best either. They get terribly warm when you’re walking.  This could cause “some” discomfort. So, when you’re putting that outfit together and you plan on being outside indirect sunlight, try building the outfit with a lighter pair of shoes.

One of the most important parts of this list is protecting your skin properly from the sunlight. It is important to use sunscreen when going out in hot weather (where the sun and its rays thrive). You could also find moisturizers that have sun protection. There is nothing worse than being sun burnt or having sun poisoning. This is important even if you’re not at the beach because it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Last but not least, pay close attention to your body and know your body’s distress signals. If you feel faint, find some shade and take a little break. Sip some of that water that you prepared in that reusable water bottle, and take your time getting back in the mix. If symptoms like exhaustion, headaches, nausea, and irritated skin persist, seek professional medical attention.

The EE 411:

Here are some other cool tips:

  1. If you exercise, shift your schedule to when it is cooler. Try going out early in the morning or later in the evening. That way, you don’t subject yourself to harsh heat.
  2. Invest in a spray bottle. There are some really cool ones with fans attached to them. J
  3. Wear cotton or synthetic breezy clothing.
  4. Bathe frequently and keep up with your skin (cleansing, moisturizing, exfoliating, etc.)
  5. Avoid caffeine and/or alcohol; it dehydrates you.
  6. Go where the air conditioning is! If you don’t have any at home, travel to the library or mall.
  7. Heat rises! If it is too hot upstairs, then spend some time downstairs or on the floor. When in doubt watch your house pet; they will find the coolest spot in the house.

Organic Soap – Lemongrass Limelight

??????????Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Well Earth’s Enrichers, we are nearing the middle of the summer. We have gotten past the strange cold fronts, the nearly vacant spring, and now everything is starting to find its balance. The birds are chirping, the sun is blazing, the humidity is rising, and the mosquitoes are among us. Yep, we said it, the pest above all pests. Not only are they hard to see and have an irritating buzz, but they also leave you with an unpleasant reminder of their visits.

Well, we have a surprise for you! Did you know lemongrass is a natural mosquito repellent? No, seriously!  The fresh smell of lemons (or citrus), while pleasant to us, repels mosquitoes. They can’t stand it. It’s the perfect plant to plant in your yard to dissuade mosquitoes from entering and perfect for your skin to help ward off mosquitoes.

Think about it, you have all these unpleasant means to get rid of mosquitoes. For instance, those outside candles that could be dangerous around little children, those bug zappers that draw the bugs in the first place, chemical sprays, and body bug sprays that either don’t work or have an unpleasant smell. If you take a chance on those, then why not take a chance with the natural way?

Here’s another cool fact, some of those outdoor candles contain citronella, which helps ward of the bugs. Citronella is naturally found in lemongrass. It may work better straight from the source, don’t you think?

Lemongrass has other amazing benefits for your skin as well. It can help ward of skin infections and fight fungus. It can also act as an astringent, which can help dry out acne.  Try the lemongrass. Plant some of it around your yard to help keep mosquitoes away and also use it on your skin so you have protection wherever you go. That way you’re not just warding off mosquitoes, but you’re also protecting yourself and your skin from possibly damaging unpleasant bites.

The EE 411:

To get you started we have a few awesome selections. Since lemongrass has these great benefits for your skin and relieves us from the world’s most annoying pests, we suggest using our Lemon Fresh Shea organic body bars, body balms, sugar scrubs, and bath salts. We also have a lemongrass mint organic lip balm.

Our refreshing body bars contain lemongrass, shea butter, and cocoa butter, which have the following benefits:

Lemongrass
– Wards off skin infections
– Helps fight fungus infections on skin
– Acts as an astringent

Shea Butter
– Acts as a natural moisturizer
– Soothes skin
– Protects skin against aggressions (wind, sun, cold etc.)

Cocoa Butter
– Fades blemishes
– Hydrates the skin

Our skin softening body balms contain lemongrass and shea butter too; but they also have coconut and sunflower oil. They have the following benefits:

Sunflower Oil
– Aids in the regeneration of skin
– Helps reduce scars and heal wounds
– Improves the appearance of dry, weathered, and aged skin
– Rich in Vitamins A, D, and E which act as an antioxidant

Coconut Oil
– Prevents the drying and flaking of skin
– Helps with rashes
– Protects against sun damage

The sugar scrub has the same benefits as the body balms with the addition of sugar, which can exfoliate the skin, break down the bonding or sticking together of skin cells, and facilitates moisture.

The bath salts also have lemongrass and shea butter, along with sea salt. The benefits of sea salt are that it helps detoxify the body, relaxes the muscles, and reduces aches and pains.

Give one of these a try for your summer vacations and Fourth of July barbeques. There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain. You could improve the quality of your skin, while protecting yourself from radicals that may ruin the skin like mosquitoes.

Coconut oil and sunflower oil can help regenerate the skin and when those pests bite they can leave behind nasty sores.  Overtime it, these natural organic oils could improve those damaged areas’ appearances, bringing back your skin’s natural glow and pigment.

Living Healthy – Enjoying Juicing

Fresh Vegetable SmoothieHey Earth’s Enrichers

Are you a juicer? There’s this wonderful way to take in all of the nutritious fruits and vegetables that you need. Juicing is a way for you to consume these nutrients in a delicious mix of your own. Whether you despise kale by itself but you love it with one your favorite fruits or you love is straight up, you can have your favorite or least favorite veggies and fruits anytime you want.  Of course, this isn’t a fairytale end to digesting your fruits and vegetables while still maintaining ALL of the appropriate nutrition. There are some rules. These rules ensure that you are getting all the nutrition you need.

Before I give you the juicing nutrition rules, let’s go over some juicing properties. The idea of juicing is basically taking your favorite fruits, vegetables, or both and designing your own delicious, affordable and all you can drink fest. This usually does not entail adding much else to your mixture, although if you see fit, you can add yogurt, ice, or any other suitable ingredient at your leisure.

You don’t need a professional grade juicer; you can simply use a blender. Before putting in any seedy fruits or anything with fibrous skin, we recommend peeling and deseeding. It will help you enjoy your drink and your blender in the long run.

Be kind to your blender! Your blender is the reason why juicing is possible so treat it with nice gestures like a thorough cleaning when you’re finished with it. That way it’s ready for the next fruit and vegetable rodeo.

Being kind to your blender has benefits for you—other than keeping it around longer. If you don’t like seedy or pulpy fruits/vegetables then choose options that lack those characteristics. Also, if you find that you don’t quite like thicker drinks add a little water till it’s just right.

This is all about what’s good for you! So keep in mind what makes you happy, while making and keeping you healthy. Continue to explore and research foods, beverages, and activities that keep up your fitness. If you haven’t given juicing a try, try it! Experiment with your favorite fruits, vegetables, milk, etc. Come up with your best, and tell us all about it. We’d love to hear it! And as we always say, know your body, and do what makes your body happy.

The EE 411: Juicing Nutrition Rules

Now about those rules we promised you. These are important, so pay close attention. There are ten rules you should keep in mind when juicing:

  1. Juicing alone does not provide you with all of the nutrition necessary for your body. This means juicing diets are not recommended especially if you’re only consuming the liquid. It is important to have a well-rounded diet and; Juicing can lack the fibers/proteins necessary to keep your body healthy. The skins of the fruit/veggies and pulp are a part of those fibers/protein. It is important to actually eat the veggies and fruits that are the recommended amounts for a day.
  2. Depending on the vegetable or fruit you choose, you are taking in nourishing vitamins and benefits that are special to the particular veggie/fruit. So, it wouldn’t hurt to do a little research to see what you need and what fruits and/or vegetables can give it to you.
  3. When juicing it is important to know what your body needs and doesn’t need. It is counterproductive to overload your body with vitamins it doesn’t need. Your body will simply become confused and not know what to do with what you gave it. It could make you ill, so check with a professional and keep up with what your body is taking in.
  4. Juicing diets aren’t the best for detoxing. Once the fruit and veggies are juiced, fibers are demolished. Fiber helps your body produce waste and regulate the sugar levels in blood; without it in the juices, it doesn’t necessarily provide you all that you need. Therefore it’s not the best way to detox your body.
  5. Great for easy snacking and stopping you from eating that sinful junk food you like. It creates a fun and creative option that can satisfy the sweets cravings. Fruits have natural sugars, and you can definitely substitute that for your average sweets.
  6. Don’t go overboard. This is just a heads up. If you experiment with juicing and you juice, for example, a meal—please don’t make yourself sick. Don’t force yourself to drink it if you don’t like it.
  7. Calories vary depending on what you use. Grinding [insert your choice ingredient(s)] does not necessarily mean it breaks down the calories. This is another reason why knowing your body and research is important. What you like, may not meet the calorie goals you have in mind.
  8. Juicing can reduce the risk of heart disease and cancers. Using organic, natural grown vegetables and fruits can provide your body with benefits like strong bones, an increase in energy, antioxidants, boost the glow in your skin, and aid in weight loss.
  9. Drink it while it’s fresh! Once juiced, it can be quick to perish and lose its appealing taste.
  10. Make sure what you’re using is pesticide free, and natural or organic.

Organic Health – Fresh Veggie Gardening

Dear Earth’s Enrichers!

????????????????????????????????The idea of all-natural and organic is starting to set in and become an emerging norm. Some families, plant their own vegetables to place on the table at dinner. In addition to growing vegetables, they have the option to grow herbs and spices. In starting a personal garden, you could have an endless supply of what you need to cook and what you use to season your food. Not to mention, it saves money!

Now, before we go any further, it is important to realize that planting your own personal garden is a lot different from foraging. Foraging is for the experts! If you are used to going to the grocery store and buying your produce, then foraging is not for you. Foraging is the ability to identify different plants as edible/non-poisonous, collect them, and prepare them in a way that is safe for the body to process.

Unless you are well trained and have an extensive amount of experience, it is not a good idea to pick plants that you personally did not grow. You could end up with a serious case of poisoning. All of the vegetables that were deemed beneficial and good for a human being to eat have a doppelganger. Doppelganger, in the sense that there are very dangerous plants that look almost the same as the safe ones. There are slight differences in the plants that trained foragers or botanists are able to see. This protects them from making the wrong choice and they also know how to prepare certain edibles properly.

However, if you lack the foraging skills, planting a personal garden can help you have those fresh organic vegetables without possible detrimental outcomes. It could also help you save money on groceries and spices/herbs. Now, if you don’t have a green thumb, don’t worry. There are starter packets that can provide you with all the info and “how to do’s” of organic gardening.

Starting a vegetable garden maybe a fun hobby for the summer. It will take some care and patience but it has superb benefits that are financial, recreational, and healthy. This way you know you are making a healthy decision for your family.

The EE 411:

Gardening Tips & Benefits

When first beginning to garden, it is important to keep a few things in mind:
• Find or designate a place with less to no contaminates like run-off pollution, animal excretions, or pests.
• Study and research the kind of vegetable plants you want to have in your garden and determine their proper environment.
• Find a good starter kit that suits your needs like an herb or vegetable starter.
• Look for fertilizers, plant food, and potting soils that have the right nutrients and lack harsh chemicals.
• Patience and water are key.

Having a garden to plant your own produce has benefits. For Example:
• Store-bought organic vegetables can be very hard on the wallet/pocketbook; gardens can reduce the cost of having this healthier option.
• Extra handling that comes from the transportation of the produce to its destination like to the market, or the warehouse is eliminated.
• Gardening gives you something to do with your family a memorable hobby you can all share and enjoy the end product together at the dining table.

Hair Health – The Rate Hair Grows

Hey Earth’s Enrichers!

Every once in a while we feature a post from another blog which peaks our interest and that we think may peak yours as well.  This week’s blog was created by Natural Nicole and it provides you with great information regarding hair growth and hair loss.  We hope that you enjoy it!

Our hair usually grows at least six inches a year but it could grow more than six inches a year when you factor in DNA and your diet.  This means the average rate of hair growth in a month is ½ inch per month, which means our hair is constantly growing!

Three major things can have a negative effect on how our hair grows and can cause it to slow down they are:

1. Medications

2. Stress

3. Unhealthy Diet

4. Sleep Deprivation

If you notice your hair is not growing or the rate of growth has slowed down look into the things listed above and try to work on that area.

Ways you can prevent breakage or hair loss is by implementing the following:

1. Eat Healthy

2. Cut back on your caffeine intake

3. Don’t over use heat

4. Make sure to massage your scalp

5. Be gentle when combing your hair

6. Make sure to deep condition your hair

7. Avoid protein overload

8. Get your ends trimmed

9. Don’t over condition your hair

10.Use a Sulfate Free Shampoo

11.Wear Protective Styles

12.Always wear a satin bonnet to bed

13.Don’t braid your hair tight

14.Try and keep your hands out of your hair in other words don’t play in your hair

15. Seal in the Moisture with a good oil and keep your hair moisturized

I think that you will have a healthy hair journey with a successful growth rate if you take heed to the things I listed above!

Lip Balm – Nourishing Lip Balm

Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Lip Balm - Nourishing Lip BalmThe weather is now at its finest and also, minus the humid days, it’s driest. Usually, the spring is known for its nice breezy days with moist rainy weather and the occasional thunderstorm. While, on the other hand, summer is known for its intense heat and days without rain. This means it kind of gets dry. Sometimes, like in the harsh winter, it can dry out your skin, especially your lips.

When the weather dries and the body starts to become thirsty or slightly dehydrated, the lips can start to become chapped and dry. It is important to stay hydrated and moisturize your skin, including having a lip balm and practicing healthy lip care.

We at EE narrowed down two main ingredients that we use in our lip balm that are sure to provide your lips with the nourishment they need. These ingredients are coconut oil and shea butter, which are well known for providing protection for your skin.

Coconut oil is a moisturizer that does more than hydrate your skin; it helps repair dry and damaged skin. Peeling, flaking, or rashes can be healed with regular usage. When lips are dry, they tend to peel and flake, which can cause pain or discomfort.

Coconut oil works great on other parts of your skin, so why not put it on your lips? It would leave them smooth and protect them from any sun damage as well—another grand benefit of coconut oil!

Shea butter and coconut oil are the perfect match when it comes to creating a fusion base for a lip balm. Shea butter is a natural moisturizer and it is great for soothing the skin, after the coconut oil regenerates and heals the skin, the shea butter maintains your lips silkiness and nourishes them. Also, just like coconut oil, shea butter can protect against aggressions like wind, cold, and sun making them a great team when it comes to lip care.

The EE 411:

Please welcome Lemongrass Mint, Honey Vanilla, and Coconut Chai lip balms. These lip balms have the coconut oil and shea butter fusion base. However, there are some other awesome ingredients in these lip balms that are dedicated to healthy lip care.

In Lemongrass Mint, we added lemongrass and peppermint. Peppermint helps nourish your skin, while lemongrass helps ward off skin infections or fungus, which is great protection to have for your lips. Just think, how many times do your fingers, writing utensils, or other foreign things touch your lips?

Honey Vanilla is made with vanilla and honey. Not only does it produce a great aroma, but these ingredients are also great for your skin. Vanilla can help reduce stress and prevents the damaging of skin cells. It also helps improve skin tones. It can boost your lips’ natural color. Then honey swoops in with the protection. It helps protect your skin from harmful sun rays and also helps hydrate your lips.

Last but certainly not least, Coconut Chai has cinnamon. Cinnamon helps bring various nutrients to the surfaces of your skin. Not to mention, it has an invigorating fragrance.

Body Balms – Moisturizing Body Balms

Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Body Balms - Moisturizing Body BalmsWe hope that you are enjoying this beautiful weather! Since the weather is becoming a little more consistent and the temperature is on the rise, it’s about that time for the tank tops and shorts! Now, we have to ask, what do you put on your skin to keep it nourished and moisturized? Are you a lotion person or a body balm person?

What are Body Balms?

You do know the difference between lotions and body balms, right? Lotion, of course, moisturizes but it is not as thick or as creamy as a body balm. Lotions are made of oils and water. Body balms are much more dense and contain less water and more oil.

Why People use Body Balms?

One of body balm’s primary purposes is to moisturize skin effectively in a way that lotion cannot moisturize. The lotions you use may contain too much water and may not be giving your skin the level of moisturizing it needs.

Since body balms contain less water, they have enough of the proper oils to nourish the skin. When an individual applies lotion and it takes a good glob or handful of lotion to effectively nourish your skin, then a body balm may be what you need. It takes less than a big glob and can be used on the legs, face, arms, and feet.

Now, lotion is not all bad, but it is more convenient for you and healthier for your skin if you know how much moisturizer to apply. Lotion may not be enough to help you reach smooth, nourished, and moisturized skin. Also, it’s troublesome when you have too much of the lotion in your hands. Have you ever put too much lotion in your hands and looked for someone or something to wipe it on? Confess up!

Not to mention that wasting the lotion is kind of like losing money. Body balms usually come in a jar like ours. That way if you take too much you can just put it back in the jar and close the lid. Also, it is important to be careful when using dense oils to moisturize your skin, especially if you have naturally oily skin. Too much oil can cause break outs. So, use dense moisturizers responsibly.

What are the benefits of Body Balms?

If used appropriately, body balms can have many great effects on the skin. It’s a means of moisturizing your skin without suffocating it. They also give your skin a natural glow and make it more vibrant.

Body balms also come in many different fragrances. Each scent can come with its on benefits based on the ingredients that are used. For instance, here at EE we have three different scents: Lemon Fresh Shea, Calming Spa Seaweed, and Lavender of the Valley.

Before we go into the individual benefits, there are three main shared ingredients that we use in our balms. These ingredients produce the basic benefits of each balm. The three ingredients are sunflower oil, shea butter, and coconut oil. Sunflower oil helps the skin regenerate, reducing scars, improving aged skin, and has vitamins A, D, and E, while Coconut oil prevents the skin from flaking, helps with rashes, and protects against sun damage. Shea butter is a natural moisturizer that soothes the skin and helps protect it from elemental radicals like the wind and sun.

In EE’s Lemon Fresh Shea Body balm, we have other ingredients like lemongrass which wards off infections and fungus. In Calming Spa Seaweed, there are ingredients like seaweed and rosemary mint. Seaweed helps protect and nourish the skin while increasing blood circulation and combating inflammation. Rosemary mint soothes the skin and relieves any itch or irritation. It also is great for nasal and respiratory problems. In Lavender of the Valley, there is lavender which helps you relax and has gentle healing benefits. We invite you to try them and see which one is to your liking.

The EE 411:

As you all know, we encourage you to try things that are good for your health, not just for your skin but your overall wellness. In order to effectively maintain good health, it is important to know what is best for your body.

Body balms are great for the skin, but they must be used wisely and appropriately. Pay attention to where your body prefers deeper moisturizers. If skin on parts of your body produce more oils than others, keep it duly noted. You do not want to over burden your skin with oils.

Also, if you find that some places are more likely to become dry, then it may be the primary spot you want to apply the body balm. If used excessively without proper hygiene, the oils in the body balm could clog the pores. That is why it is important to know how much is too much for your skin and maintain your body’s cleanliness. That way you and your body know and have a proper balance.

No worries, Earth’s Enrichers there are three new sugar scrubs to help revitalize, moisturize, cleanse, and bring back your skin’s natural glow. Not to mention, leaving you feeling refreshed and smelling great. Please welcome Calming Spa Seaweed, Lavender of the Valley, and Lemon Fresh Shea sugar scrubs. For those of you who haven’t really used sugar scrubs and have sensitive skin, this week’s blog is for you.

What are Sugar Scrubs and why use them?

Sugar scrubs are a sweet and sensational way to exfoliate. They are cleansers equipped with sugar crystal that are designed to gently exfoliate the skin. Exfoliating is the process before bathing or rinsing that gets rid of all the dead skin. This helps to make your bathing experience a lot more efficient. Dead skin only inhibits the soap from doing its job properly and stops it from deep cleansing. Exfoliating helps remove this barrier of dead skin and allows your bathing experience to be more effective.

What are the benefits of Sugar Scrubs?

Using sugar scrubs effectively helps you remove the dead skin that may otherwise be difficult to wash away. Exfoliating the dead skin helps your soap or cleanser do its job efficiently. The end result of this is glowing, soft, smooth, and refurbished skin.

Sugar Scrubs not only remove dead skin, but also help draw out impurities or toxins in the skin. They can be used on all of the external skin of the body. It allow for a deeper clean that does not chemically put your skin in danger. They moisturize and buffer the skin, restoring its natural glow and smoothness.

How to use them?

Sugar scrub can be applied by rubbing into the skin with your hands, a wash cloth, or for a more effective result, with a hard bathing utensil like loofa or body scrub brush. There is no need to apply an extensive amount of pressure or scrub ferociously. Lightly pressing is sufficient to remove dead skin and clear the way for the soap.

You may use the sugar scrub in your bath or while you are in the shower usually scrubbing in a gentle, circular motion. After you have finished scrubbing, gently rinse the sugar off your skin with your hands or a scrubbing utensil. Then proceed with the rest of your bath.

Depending on your body as we always say knowing your body is the way to keep it healthy it can be used on any external surface and sensitive skin. If you detect any lasting redness, welting, or irritation of any kind, contact a professional. It could be allergies or you may have scrubbed too hard. It’s always important to find out from your doctor.

The EE 411:

Before I continue on to the precautions of using sugar scrubs, we’d like to tell you what exactly is in our sugar scrubs. Since each sugar scrub has its own unique scent, we have boiled; It down to this: certified organic oils, powders, and sugars made from natural, organic elements. Each sugar scrub contains sunflower oil which is great for helping skin regenerate and reducing scars. It has the appropriate amount of Vitamin A, D, and E for your skin. Another ingredient is coconut oil that aids in relieving rashes and irritated skin. It also prevents drying and flaking of the skin.

As for special benefits for specific sugar scrubs, rosemary mint in Calming Spa Seaweed helps to relieve itchy and irritated skin; while also clearing up any nasal or respiratory discomfort. Lemon Fresh Shea’s special ingredients like Lemongrass can help prevent skin infections and fight fungus on the skin. Lavender of the Valley has organic lavender that acts as a great relaxant, remedy for stress, and is an effective cleanser. When you have time, check out all the other benefits of these sugars. Discover which one is your favorite.

There are a lot of benefits in the sugar as well. The certified organic sugar in the sugar scrubs exfoliates the skin and acts as a moisturizer. While it moisturizes, it breaks down any toxins and removes any dead skin. However, there are a few precautions when using sugar scrubs or any scrubs for that matter. Do not use on already irritated skin, this means if your skin is welted and very sensitive (consult your doctor) it may not be prudent to use scrubs on that area. Or on any open wounds. Also, if you have sun burn, do not exfoliate—imagine a carpet burn. Remember, keep what’s good for you in mind.
