Healthy Lifestyle – Goal Setting

????????????????????Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Having aspirations and goals can give you the drive you need to be successful in life. Not having anything to work towards or a sense of purpose can lead you astray. You may find yourself not wanting to do anything and settling for average. We at EE would like to sway you to do otherwise—Set a Goal! Even if it’s just a small one, no goal is unimportant.

The sense of achievement that comes from obtaining the goals you set can be priceless. It’s the feeling of accomplishment that keeps you motivated. Take for instance someone who is afraid of rollercoasters who is convinced to ride one at an amusement park. This person waits nervously in line. The anticipation of the rollercoaster makes them anxious and they start to look for means of escaping, but the time to board draws near. The person gets on the ride and as it slowly creeps up to its first plummet, the feeling to faint threatens to take over. All of a sudden the coaster drops and the person finds him/herself on a thrill—dipping, whirling, screaming screams he/she didn’t even know they were capable of—then the ride’s over. The person gets off the ride feeling a sense of accomplishment and awe. They think that it wasn’t so bad and that it was over quite quickly. This person may even consider getting on another ride.

The point is that goal setting and achieving that goal is not as easy as people think.  You have to make the decision and choose the goals you want to accomplish. Once that decision is made, you have to stick to it. On your way to achieving that goal, you may start looking for every way out. Don’t give in because before you know it, you will have gotten closer to achieving your goal. It may seem like the world is standing in your way and/or that you don’t have enough time to be successful, but you do! Don’t let the anticipation make you anxious and turn you away from what may frighten you, or you may miss your opportunity.

If you stay strong, you will find that you have reached your goal before you know it. Perseverance will allow blessings to come your way because of the amount of work you put in. Your patience and courage will help you accomplish something you didn’t think was possible. Have faith in yourself, and remember the feeling that comes with accomplishment because it will keep you motivated.

The EE 411:  Goal Setting, Motivation, GOAL!!!

There are some standard guidelines for setting goals:

  1. Brainstorm: Think about what you want to achieve and why. This could take anywhere from hours to a day or two. Don’t rush yourself because you have to know what you want.
  2. Prepare Yourself: After you have discovered what you want to achieve, do some research. Find out what it will take, how long it usually takes, what all it encompasses, etc. Make sure you get a handle on everything you need.
  3. Blue Print: Draft out the main or long-term goal and the steps or short-term goals you will need to take to achieve the long-term goal.
  4. Timeline: On your blue print, map out how long it will take YOU to achieve this goal. Chart out on a calendar when you will achieve these events.
  5. Goal Contract: Write out your main (long-term) goal and the steps you will be taking (or short-term goals) out. Make it detailed, and then find a witness to sign this contract. This witness will be responsible for helping you achieve this goal by not letting you out of it. (Choose someone you are close to that will be assertive and adamant).
  6. Begin!

The Key to Motivation:

Motivation comes in many shapes and sizes. It can be material things or objects, a feeling, or a treat you’d like to give yourself. By definition, motivation is the general desire or means for an individual to do something. So even a person’s reasons for setting a goal could keep them motivated. To help remind them of their motivation, use reinforcers. These can be little rewards that can be merited when a step is achieved. However, make sure the award doesn’t set you back. For instance, if your goal is to quit your shopaholic tendencies, the reward shouldn’t be a shopping spree. Make the rewards moderate and plausible like a trip to the movies. Take the rewards as an opportunity to try something new!

Natural Health – Ways to Relieve Skin Irritations

Natural Health- Ways to Relieve Skin IrritationsHey Earth’s Enrichers

In some instances, desperate times can call for desperate measures. What can you do to relieve the temporary discomfort that comes from skin break outs? You know the inflamed, red, itchy areas that happen when we make that one mistake we didn’t need. These cases tend not to be as serious as a visit to the emergency room, but can be as irritating as the day is long.

So this week, Earth’s Enrichers, we will be dedicated to giving you helpful and natural ways to relieve skin irritation. These remedies can be found in your own home and can be helpful when the irritation is not so serious but is far from comfortable. If you find that the irritation is something serious, then it’s best to contact a professional or doctor before taking any further action.

In weather that’s, icy and windy, your face or other constantly exposed areas can be subject to harsh elements. To protect your skin from the irritation of the cold, we recommend you moisturize and continue to hydrate your skin throughout the day. Coconut oil and shea butter (which we use to base all of our balms by the way) are great for healing, moisturizing, and revitalizing skin. Keeping your skin clean and moisturized properly everyday will help prevent irritation.

Then again, even when precautions are taken, things can still happen. So, what do you do to ease annoying skin irritation? There is a simple and general tactic to relieve discomfort. The first thing you should not do is constantly mess with or scratch the irritated area; that could make it worse. Not to mention, the dirt and bacteria from your hands could cause contamination.

So, the first step to take is to make sure the irritated area is clean.  Use natural skin sensitive cleansers that contain natural relievers like oatmeal and aloe vera. Using a cold water soaked wash cloth, pat the area gently or place it over the area. Do not scrub the area or leave it wet—pat the area dry with a soft towel. The cool water will help relieve the hotness of irritation temporarily.

Aloe Vera has healing and cooling properties that can soothe irritations. Also, using a cold compress is an alternative. It can reduce swelling and provide temporary relief from the burning irritated skin, there are also properties in oatmeal that can help relieve inflammation. When cleaning or soaking the irritated area, it is best to use cold to lukewarm water. This way you don’t produce more irritation to the affected area or dry it out.

Last but certainly not least, remove anything from that area of the body that could cause irritation. For instance, a tag or piece of clothing that continually comes in contact with that area will cause further irritation. Following this process should help provide some relief for any skin discomfort or irritation. If it doesn’t go away in a timely fashion, we recommend that you seek medical attention to see what the allergenic is or what continues to irritate your skin.

The EE 411:  Skin Irritations – Break Out the Break Out Remedies

Remember, it is important to know your body. Make a note of the things that break you out and cause allergic reactions. It will help save you from future troubles. Once you recognize what irritates your skin, you can have a better assessment of its sensitivities. You will start to develop a profile that helps you select products that benefit you. So, for remedies that can help relieve the annoyance of skin inflammation, redness, and itchiness, please see below:

When looking to reduce redness and inflammation, the following are good options:

Simply place these things on the area until temporary relief is evident. It shouldn’t take longer than a few minutes.

When looking for something to reduce itching and irritation, the following are good choices:

  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Baking soda (a teaspoon add water)
  • Oatmeal
  • Peppermint leaves*
  • Basil leaves*

(*Also, good for bug bites)

Taking controlled amounts of these substances and gently rubbing them on the irritated area should temporally cease the annoyance. Check out other skincare remedies.

Here at EE we do care about your health. If you find that you constantly deal with your skin breaking out, then perhaps you should assess the products you are using. We encourage you to try us and see if our products lead your skin to better results. We make our products with you in mind, so don’t forget we have your back. For a quick start, here are some EE products that contain ingredients that help with relief of irritation, inflammation, and redness.

Healthy Lifestyle – The Gift of Giving

????????Hey Earth’s Enrichers

It’s New Years’, the season of change and taking on new challenges. The holiday spirit doesn’t have to end, so why not continue the gift of giving and fellowship? We discovered some new information about the gift of giving that we know you would be interested in. Giving is the concept of passing something along to another individual without the need to receive anything in return. Inadvertently, when you give you do get something in return.

Would you believe us if we told you that when you give to someone you receive a good bill of health in return? Yep! Giving inspires relationship building, stress relief, reduced heart disease, and lower blood pressure. Human beings are natural social creatures who tend to wear their hearts on their sleeves. So, it makes a lot of sense when our emotions and social life affect our health.

Think back to when you have had a fight with a family member, suppose they felt unappreciated, how did you feel? It probably felt like thunder in your chest and a tsunami in your stomach. Negative feelings and bad relationships with others create restlessness and makes it hard for the body to relax. Cruelty is not something our bodies can easily handle, but it comes with the territory. We were given generosity, kindness, and fellowship to help us fight the cruelty, stinginess, and greed that can have negative effects on our health.

So, we encourage you to give a little cheer this New Year and the holiday seasons to come. The world is full of people who need it. Giving is not just for the holiday season but for all year long and it shows people that you care. If you have a chance to give, then give. Believe us when we tell you, it feels much better when you do and you never know what opportunities you can provide to a person by giving.

Another way to give is with fellowship. Sometimes, even spending time with people is more than enough. Quality time with family members and grandparents can bring them more joy than any amount of money could buy. They look forward to it and will always remember the quality time.

To help those who are less fortunate, donate what you can to a shelter, also spending time in a soup kitchen and helping out will help you find joy, especially if you can’t be with your family at that moment. It will help give you the emotional support you need, fellowship, and create warmth when you are homesick.

The EE 411:  The Rules on Giving

Okay, everyone pay attention. Take a deep breath in and out—we’re going to learn the rules on giving.

  1. Give to another to create joy
  2. Expect nothing in return
  3. Smile when you give
  4. Thank others for what they give you with a hearty smile
  5. By all means, write thank you cards
  6. Under no circumstances do you tell someone you are taking their gift back to the store (even if it’s socks).

In return you will be rewarded with:

  • Stress relief
  • Relationship building
  • Reduction of stress can help reduce heart disease and high blood pressure
  • Fellowship
  • Intimacy and empathy
  • Patience
  • Happiness
  • Sleeping better at night
  • More gifts

So, we hope our gift to you can be useful during your journey through life. Generosity is the key to health and happiness. We at EE hope you had a happy holiday season and a great New Year. Enjoy the gift of giving!

Organic Health – Creative Motivation

???????Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Remember a few weeks ago we did a topic on Intellectual health? We talked about how a mind is a terrible thing to waste and that it must be stimulated on the average in order for it to maintain functionality and good health.  In order to properly stimulate and motivate your mind, you must use your creativity!

The internet and technology has made it possible for everyone to be creative. It is a network where individuals can share and hone in on their creative abilities. There are places for individuals to share and create what they enjoy for free like film/video making/editing, writing, music, games, and art. It is a place where people come together and share. Sharing their creations helps the creators build their abilities and improve on them.

Creativity is developed when an individual feeds their mind creative elements. This means the more creations a person fills their mind with, the better the content that comes out. Creativity comes from “remixing” the world we live in. We draw from our own experiences, build upon them, and make them our own—they become our very own creative projects.

Exposing our minds to the things we enjoy—our hobbies—inspires us to be more creative. This can give us more outlets for our emotions. Take this as an example:  we listen to music depending on our mood and our personal tastes. When some of us are alone, we hum our favorite tunes. Some of us even ad-lib and change up the tempo according to how we feel. This, our friends, is creativity! So go on and sing your remix and dance your signature moves. In doing this, you are activating creativity and stimulating creative thought. It motivates you to pick up or make your own tempo.

It all goes back to garbage in, garbage out. Allowing your mind to take in creative information allows it to go through a filtering process. The creations (videos, music, fan made literature, etc) that are taken into the mind can be in good taste or utterly terrible; either way, your mind’s creative problem solving will help you make what you find terrible better or help you find something that better suits your fancy.

The EE 411:  Access To Creativity

What is it that you enjoy the most? The internet is a place of globalization and the coming together of many hobbies that are enjoyed. Believe it or not, glamour and skincare are hobbies. You can become a master of skin perfection by finding and creating what benefits your skin and makes it glow.

  • There are no excuses for boredom or lack of healthy skincare. You have an open source where people share their home remedies and options. Even here at EE, we are happy to share what we have learned and provide you with better choices.Hobbies that go great together:
    • Aromatherapy with a good book & meditation
    • Soothing lavender, lemon grass, or seaweed salt bath with music
    • Sketching, drawing, recreational art with music
    • Games with children or friends plus introducing them to your expert cooking skills
    • Cooking and having one’s own herb and spice garden
    • Bargain shopping and designing a masterfully stylish outfit
    • Social media, writing, and blogging–  especially if you like to connect with people 🙂
    • Aromatherapy and making your own crafts (perfume, air freshener, etc.)

These are just a few ideas, but there are many more. Creativity is healthy for your mind and emotions. It gives you outlets and a way to keep your mind stimulated and motivated. We hope this inspires you to get creative! ^^

Health and Living – The FYI on Blood Pressure

Heart healthHey Earth’s Enrichers

Have you ever had a moment of high stress and/or a point when you were so fed up with something that you may have said it make your blood boil or it raises your blood pressure? We are pretty sure you have had one of those moments a few times. But what actually raises your blood pressure and how can you keep it under control?

Blood pressure is the pressure exerted by the blood on the walls of your arteries. It is also the rate upon which it circulates and the heart pumps your blood. High blood pressure also known as hypertension is when the pressure readings reach 140/90 and over. It is basically that your heart is pumping too much blood at a time.

This can happen because your arteries are too narrow to handle the increased amount of blood. In some cases, high blood pressure can lead to other forms of health issues like heart attack or stroke. This, of course, depends on other extenuating circumstances of the individual that has high blood pressure.

In all situations concerning your health, it is important to talk to a professional to see where you in your health. Consulting a doctor can help you see where your health stands and what you could do to improve it. There are ways you can help reduce your chances of high blood pressure:

  • regulate your sodium intake because it can contribute to high blood pressure.
  • reduce your stress levels and find some ways to cope healthily
  • exercise to keep your body fit and ready for whatever comes its way
  • practice eating healthy
  • foods that exclusively helps reduce blood pressure:
    • berries like raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries have flavonoids that help blood pressure
    • leafy greens have potassium and are great for lowering blood pressure
    • beets contain nitrates that can help reduce blood pressure.
    • oatmeal has low sodium and fat, which is great for a high blood pressure
    • bananas are just good for everything, the potassium is great for adding to a healthy diet.

The EE 411: Smoking, Blood Pressure, and Health

We figure we’d highlight a quick tid-bit about smoking health risks. As you all are well aware, there have been studies that show how smoking can have adverse effects on an individual’s health. Smoking, as research has shown, can make getting health more difficult. It can affect breathing and other aspects of your health. In terms of this week’s topic, smoking has been correlated with high blood pressure. It has been connected to lung cancer and cardiovascular disease. Smoking is definitely something to consult your doctor about, especially if you are thinking about quitting. Also, the second hand smoke can pose health risks to others. It is nice to be mindful of others when smoking and others to avoid too much exposure to second-hand smoke.

Health and Living – Environmental Health

 ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Ladies and Gentlemen, the six principles of heath are coming to an end. However, this does not mean that you have to forget all that we have shared with you. So here is a quick review of the five principles we have introduced.  The first principle we covered was physical health, which represents the body’s health and refers to anything that benefits your body’s physical fitness, safety, nutrition, and medical responsibility.

The second principle was intellectual health, which represents the mind and keeping it well feed and active. The third was spiritual health, which means having a purpose or deeper meaning in life. The fourth was emotional health, which is the ability to cope with stress and achieve/maintain self-esteem. The fifth was social health, which is the making and conservation of meaningful interpersonal relationships.  Our grand finale, the sixth principle of health, is environmental health.

When you think of the environment, what comes to mind? Pollution? The place in which you live? Let’s put it like this: environmental health is the effect the environment has on you and the effect you have on the environment. That’s right. In this health principle you have a direct responsibility to the planet. Believe it or not, what you do for the environment can directly affect the environment of those around you.

This affect you have on the environment can be a positive one or a negative one. Remember, you do have a choice. For instance, if you have something you’re finished with and it leaves behind trash find the proper way to dispose of it. It may not seem like much but your contribution could lead others to make better decisions as well.

Now, here is where you have to be careful of the environment as a whole. When living in certain places there are certain things about those places that you know aren’t safe. For instance, in some places it is not so healthy to drink the water directly from the faucet. On another note, it may not be healthy to go down that dark deserted alley on your way home.

This vital part of environmental health is knowing your environment. Do research to find out what you can and cannot do. Also, look into where you can find a farmers’ market and organic and healthy products. That way you are not falling into unhealthy eating habits. Find out the safer and open areas to exercise and increase fitness.

This principle of heath requires that you look after your own health and consider other’s health around you. It’s a way to personally have a positive impact on your neighbors and the environment itself. Looking after the environment will help look after you in the long run- you deserve it and your peers deserve it as well!

The EE 411: Looking After Your Environment

  • Recycle
  • Put your trash away the right way (making sure it is all in the garbage can)
  • Clean the gutters
  • Plant Plants
  • Dispose of electronics properly – Did you know that electronics like headphones are supposed to be disposed of in a particular way? They can also be recycled.
  • Conserve energy- unplug the things you are not using.
  • Ride your bike to places you need to go (conserve energy, reduce pollution, and perfect physical activity).
  • Check leaky faucets.

These are simple things you can do yourself that can positively affect your environment. Using organic products can help reduce the amount of chemicals you use. Chemical waste is a big part of the environment. Buying products that are produced with chemical and artificial preservatives is not the best things for you. Look after yourself. Your body is your fortress- so protect it!

Health and Living – Social Health

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Hey Earth’s Enrichers

It doesn’t seem like summer is ready to come to its end yet. So do not stop having fun yet. There is plenty of time to meet new people and establish new relationships. Let us elaborate on what we mean by relationships. We mean friendships, meeting new people, or maybe even possibly meeting someone you want to get to know on a deeper level. Not like that! Instead, we mean taking the time to initiate meaningful relationships. This can be done in old relationships with friends, family, or spouse. This can also help you determine how to make meaningful relationships with new people.

The topic this week is social health, ladies and gentlemen. Social health is the making and conservation of meaningful interpersonal relationships. It is a way of networking through your social life where you analyze what relationships are beneficial and not destructive. It helps you build confidence about your interactions and gives you a better support system. This, of course, means you have to be there for your friends too. It is only right to return the favor if they support you.   An even balance of work, family, friends, and self can bring you happiness.   Just do not overwhelm yourself, so know your limits.

When it comes to relationships, we’d like to talk to you about quality over quantity. The number of friends or stable relationships you have does not matter. It is the quality of those relationships that matters. An individual can literally only have two friends and have a better quality relationship with them than an individual who may have ten friends. Now, you can have ten friends and have a  great quality relationship with them. The main point is to not focus on the numbers. Instead, focus on the relationship.

We have a key to helping you create better quality relationships and it’s not even a secret. The key is communication. It seems simple, right? Believe it or not, communication is a skill that needs plenty of practice to maintain and hone. With practice comes better ways to communicate and share your ideas, experiences, and feelings without obstructing a relationship. The trick is not to think too much, while at the same time trusting yourself and your friends. Feel free to ask if they are okay with something or ask their point of view. Questions like these open channels to communicate more deeply and make more connections.

Practicing communication will help you move one step closer to creating a stable social network and maintaining better quality relationships. Having a more stable social network made of family, spouse, and friends helps you build a better support system, which gives you more confidence in everyday interactions. With the mastering of communication skills, you can become a professional at making friends and having a great social life. You deserve it!

The EE 411: Social Health

With the creation of new technology and more efficient ways of getting in touch comes greater responsibility. There is nothing wrong with having relationships (friendships, etc.) with individuals online (as long as you know who they are) but do not let those online relationships take away from in person, face-to-face relationships. Remember, balance is the key to happiness.

Ways to help or open communication in relationships:

  • Play twenty-one questions where you can ask them 21 questions about themselves and make your own rules. Make it fun!
  • If you know that your friends like to have spa days or massages, how about you all find a time when you are free and meet up. Or you could have your own Spa parties at each other’s places and interchange. (We recommend Calming Spa Seaweed body bar, sea salt, sugar, and body balm for the theme.)
  • Find something that all of your friends like to do whether it’s shopping, going out dancing or for dinner, playing your favorite sports game, even getting together and watching your favorite sports game.
  • If you are too busy for friends, make time! Having a break every now and again can help you think clearly. It also benefits your relationships.
  • Having a game night or dinner party is a great way to get friends and family together.

Health and Living – Emotional Health

 ????????????Hey Earth’s Enrichers

There are six principles that develop a well-rounded, healthy life. These principles are physical health, intellectual health (mind), spiritual health, emotional health, social health and environmental health. In the past few weeks, we have covered physical, intellectual, and spiritual health. For each one of those principles we have explained what they entail and how they can easily be included into the healthy life that you deserve.

For this week we will be talking about emotional health. Of course, the majority of you are able to guess what this principle means. To elaborate, emotional health has a lot to do with how you feel about yourself and others. It incorporates your ability to maintain and create social and interpersonal relationships.

Analyze this for a second:  what does it take to build a relationship? Or rather, what does it take for you to build a relationship? This should be thought about in a personal way because not everyone is as good at being social as others. It depends on how outgoing you are or how much self-esteem you have. This is why emotional health is important.

Emotional health is the ability to cope with stress and achieve/maintain self-esteem. The main objective is to have emotional stability. For instance, patience (a virtue that can be hard to come by) is achieved when one is able to effectively deal with unforeseen events and not let stressful situations get overwhelming. This means staying calm when things get crazy and coming up with a solution.

The inability to handle day-to-day issues on a sustained basis can be a sign of poor emotional health or (if diagnosed by a professional) a sign of mental health illnesses.  We’re not addressing these more severe instances, but more minor irritations.  Day-to-day issues usually tend to be minor in scale like dealing with traffic, spilling a drink, or even dealing with difficult co-workers. If you deal with situations equivalent to these on a normal basis and all of a sudden they begin to get to you more than usual, perhaps it’s time to come up with a de-stressing hobby.

Now, sometimes emotional stability can be hard to maintain; after a while things that are deemed trivial could get on your nerves especially when you have more pressing issues to attend. If that begins to happen, try new means of relaxation. For instance, if you often do not take relaxing bubble baths, perhaps now may be a time to start. Or you could even start joining a fitness club to work out the stress. Burning energy is a great way to deal with stress and relaxing in a nice refreshing bath can help you detox.

Venting or expressing one’s emotions can also be a good way to balance your emotional health. This can be done verbally or can be written down. If something is bothering you, it’s okay to calmly talk to that individual about it. If you cannot talk to that individual, try coming home and discussing it with your loved ones or people you trust. Another way to deal with it is with an “angry letter.” This is something your write but you don’t send. It helps you vent in a way that doesn’t hurt someone else’s feelings and is best kept in a private place like a journal.

It’s important to not let your emotions get the best of you. If you are able to control them and maintain a calm demeanor when things go wrong, then you are at optimal emotional health. Everyone gets mad and makes mistakes’, we are all human. So when we do get mad, it’s best to find healthy ways to release those emotions. Doing this helps you build better relationships and better deal with your environment.

The EE 411: Stress Relievers and Emotional Cleansers

Here are a few tips for stress relief:

  1. Counting to ten
  2. Taking deep breaths
  3. Keeping a Journal
  4. Venting in a healthy way
  5. Kick boxing or any physical activity like running
  6. Painting
  7. Playing or listening to Music
  8. Hanging out with friends or family
  9. Forgiveness (sometimes it’s easier to move on)
  10. Relaxing bath (Calming Spa Seaweed bath salts would be perfect for this! You can detox your mind, body, and soul)
  11. Meditating is basically good for everything

Emotional Cleansers:

  1. Treat yourself: have your favorite treat (dessert, food or even treat yourself by shopping). It’s okay to treat yourself to get your mind off it, just don’t overdo it.
  2. Reach out to someone and tell them how you feel whether it’s a friend, loved one, or a professional.
  3. Laughing is good for the soul.  If you have had a bad day, turn on your favorite comedy and cheer yourself up.
  4. Forgiveness: try to let things go and move on. Consider how things could have been done differently and do it better next time.
  5. Have an intense music session. If you must, sing to the top of your lungs, play air guitar, and dance your troubles away. You will soon be too exhausted to remember them anyway.

Health and Living – Spirituality

 ???????????????????????Hey Earth’s Enrichers

When you think of spirituality, what exactly comes to mind? Spirituality is very important for human health. Spirituality is the foundation of fundamentals that create the basis of human purpose. This means spirituality gives an individual a feeling of purpose, a sense of meaning in their lives.

With religion, spirituality is defined in many different ways. In health, it has more of a universal definition. Spiritual health simply wishes you to answer this question: do you feel you have a purpose or greater meaning in life? Spiritual health is less linked to a deity and more linked to the idea of building your confidence and improving your inner (mental) health. In other words, do you feel you are connected to this world for a reason?

Look at your life, accomplishments, and future goals. Discover your next move in life and how you can better reach your goals.

Take long walks and get in touch with yourself, reflect on what has happened in your life both good and bad. When was the last time you took time out of your busy day and cherished your good ol’ memories? To live in the past isn’t healthy, but to reminisce every now and again is perfectly fine.

This principle also focuses on establishing personal values. These personal values should help you with your emotional health, physical, and social life. These values can range from philosophical—do unto others, as you would have them do unto you—to physical like practicing fitness to counteract daily stress that could affect your social life.

Spiritual health encourages you to think out of the box by thinking inside of the box. Its purpose is to inspire you to look inside yourself and discover who you are, what makes you a better person and what makes you happy.

It encourages you to challenge yourself and the only way to do that is to know who you are (to know your limits). It stimulates you to enjoy yourself and love yourself. So, take the time out of your day to enjoy life and enjoy being alive. This is something you definitely deserve!

The EE 411: A Better Way To Get In Touch

One major aspect of spiritual health is the ability to get in touch with yourself, to basically understand your ultimate purpose in life. This simply means being able to experience love, pain, peace, joy, grief, and responsibility and admiration for all living beings.

Of course you have felt all of these and they are everyday aspects of life. They cannot be avoided because these feelings are a part of life. However, optimal spiritual health helps you navigate these emotions.

Meditation is a great way to achieve spiritual health.  Just in case you don’t know what meditation is, it is basically a time where you are quiet and you can deeply reflect.  The classic way to meditate is to find a quiet place to isolate yourself with the option of calming music to guide you.  This way you are undisturbed and are free to roam your thoughts as you please. Meditation does not have to be limited to sitting in isolation and it works best when you relax.  It can be done in any environment and doing any activity.  A leisurely stroll through a park or simply walking your dog could be a great time to reflect and admire the planet you live on.

We say a great way to relax and think about your day and reflect is in an awesome, warm, soothing bath. This allows you to slowly drift into long musing without disturbance. We recommend Lavender of the Valley to help you relax. Perhaps, a little soak in our bath salts to create a soothing aromatherapy, which is great for relaxing. Treat yourself and help balance your spiritual health.

Health and Living – Intellectual Health

silhouette of a man's head with a glowing light bulb, and gears.Hey Earth’s Enrichers

There are six principles that develop a well-rounded, healthy life. These principles are physical health, intellectual health (mind), spiritual health, emotional health, social health and environmental health. In the next few weeks, we will feature each one of these principles and explain what exactly they entail and how they can easily be included into the healthy life that you deserve.

This week we will focus on intellectual health, which represents the mind’s health. A mind is a terrible thing to waste, that’s why your intellect is another important factor of your health. Your brain is a muscle that requires exercise just like any other muscle in the body. If you work out often, you understand that if you want your toned muscles to stick around you must continue to exercise and keep up with your diet/fitness plan. The same goes for the brain.

The brain likes to be challenged and engaged. The mere process of receiving new information  challenges the brain and increases its capacity to grow.  Be sure to input beneficial information, you know what they say “garbage in, garbage out.”   Balance the information you receive on a daily basis.  Yes, definitely watch the news and stay informed, but make a point to also expose your brain to positive information too.  Listen to stories that have happy endings.  Stay tuned in for the news segment that highlights triumph and inspiration. Then unplug the television altogether.  Too much television can actually affect the health of your prefrontal cortex.

Instead pick up a good book. For those of you who have been out of school for a while, what do you do to keep your brain active? Just like when children are out of school for the summer, assign yourself some “summer” reading.

Everyone is always online,  but when connected to the web, challenge yourself to practice media literacy.  It may not be enough to just “Google it”. Challenge yourself and your brain to discover whether the information is accurate and constructive.  Cross reference your findings,  be skeptical and discover other answers for yourself.  Practicing media literacy will increase your knowledge base and sharpen your intellectual health for certain.

What does all this information input matter, if you are not having fun?  Have you tried out some logic games?    Intellectual exercises can be a blast Once you are at your desk for lunch, try  beating a Sudoku puzzle while you eat. Logic games are a perfect way to challenge yourself. It helps your mind expand the way it thinks and creates better problem solving skills. They make all sorts of logic games that can be played with your friends and family. Also, joining clubs or taking a few classes could help you maintain your intellectual capacity and boost your social life. 🙂

If you can’t join a class, all you really have to do to boost and enhance your intellectual health is participate in intellectual conversation. Keep up with current events, and when you do, discuss them with others and expand your point of view. When you’re on your way home listen to radio stations like NPR or simply listen to your favorite audio book. Friendly debate, reading online, and picking a book series that you like to follow are all simple, fun, and easy ways to increase your intellectual health. Have fun and enjoy yourself! You deserve it!!

The EE 411:

What is Intellectual Health?

  • Keeping your mind active
  • Maintaining your intellect

How to keep up and maintain intellectual health?

  • Logic games (board games or apps)
  • Keeping up with current events
  • Friendly debates
  • Taking up a class
  • Joining a club like maybe a book or film club
  • Reading or audiobooks
  • Even drawing and sketching

When engaging in intellectual activity there are a few fun facts that aid in brain stimulation:

  • Many aroma therapists  believe that lemongrass works to stimulate the left brain.  That’s not necessarily what Earth’s Enrichments had in mind when we developed our Lemon Fresh Shea   Body Balm, Sugar Scrub and Bath Salts, but great.  It is certainly worth a try.  Fruity scents are usually great at revitalization and stimulation.
  • Maintaining your brain activity, exercising, proper nutrition, a healthy social life, appropriate sleep, and proper maintenance of stress can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
  • Brain Foods:

o   Blueberries (Berries in general)

o   Salmon (sardines, oily fish)

o   Nuts and seeds (almonds, flax seeds, peanuts, sunflower seeds, cashews, walnuts, etc.)

o   Avocados

o   Whole grains

o   Coffee, brewed tea, pomegranate Juice, and water

o   Dark Chocolate

o   Olive oil

o   Spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, and beets

o   Garlic, sage

To help stimulate your senses and to help prepare for your day you might want to try our Fresh Ground Java, Lemon Fresh Shea (body balm too), Chai La Tea, or Honey Granola body bars. It could be the extra boost you need in the morning or evening.
