Skin Rejuvenation

Skin Rejuvenation

Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Rejuvenation, revitalization, and renewal the three best “R’s” that any person likes to hear when picking a skin care product. Think about it.  How about a product with properties that can help bring the life and color back to your skin? Not magic, just organic ingredients that come with certain benefits, of course.

For instance, we use ingredients like aloe vera, coffee, and shea butter, etc. that contain properties that aid in skin repair and help restore your skin’s natural tone. With the addition of these ingredients, we have made skin care products that not only protect your skin, but protect your good looks as well!

Take a moment and imagine yourself on the beach: you begin your day with a nice shower/bath with Fresh Ground Java, which is filled with vanilla and grind coffee beans imbued with the ability to help improve skin tone and perk up your skin. The next step is the swim suit, then sunscreen, and now you’re ready for a tan in the sand! How wonderful is it to know that before you tan naturally you were rejuvenating and restoring your skin organically. Now, that’s a sweet deal if you ask us!

The EE 411: Better Skin Practices for Skin Rejuvenation

Blemishes and random discoloration on the skin tend to be hidden by makeup, which, if not done properly, can clog pores in the skin. Instead of just covering up the blemishes and moving on, why not try natural and organic remedies to help renew your skin tone?

Nothing works overnight and sometimes remedies don’t work the same for everyone– all we ask is that you give it a try or even consult a professional to inquire about some natural remedies which contain properties that support skin rejuvenation and revitalization.

Here are a few of those natural/organic ingredients we use to aid in skin care:

  • Coffee: reduces cellulite, protects against aging and skin damage, and also acts as an exfoliant.
  • Vanilla: guards against damage of skin cells and improves skin tone.
  • Cocoa Butter: fades blemishes and hydrates skin.
  • Aloe Vera: heals dry skin, stimulates cell growth, aids and repairs damaged tissue, and treats various skin conditions such as burns and eczema.
  • Cinnamon: exfoliates and assists with the drying of acne

There are many other natural and organic ingredients that we use to help look after your skin and your good looks. Under each product we list our ingredients and their benefits for you. Our transparency is for your benefit, you deserve to know all the ingredients that you use on your skin!

Organic Skin Care – Spring Cleaning

Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Organic-Skin-Care-Spring-Cleaning
Organic Skin Care Spring Cleaning

Spring is finally settling in place and summer is about to follow. Besides all of the diets and physical activity, what are you doing to prepare your skin for the summer? Yea, that’s what we thought—not many people know that preparing your skin for summer is an actual thing. There are certain steps that you might want to take in order to protect your skin from the upcoming heat and sun.

A total body cleansing, this means cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing.  Getting a head start on clearing acne or skin irritations before the heat and sweat irritate it is a great way to prepare for the summer. Not only are you clearing your skin for a great natural even tan but you are one step closer to smoother healthier skin.

After working on clearing your skin from acne, exfoliating your winter skin will also help smooth it out and make it glow. As you all know, exfoliation is when you scrub with a bathing tool that is a little rougher than a washcloth which can scrub off the dead skin lingering behind. Doing this can prevent random bits of embarrassing flaking that can happen throughout the day.

Moisturizing will restore the moisture that the exfoliating could take away to get rid of the dry skin. It helps bring out your skin’s natural glow and reduce dry flaking. Also during your moisturizing process, try to incorporate natural organic products that contain sun protection. This way your skin is getting all the nutrients it needs and protection from the sun’s UV rays.

There are other ways to get your skin ready for the summer but these are the basic and affordable first steps. The next step is getting those winter toes ready for sandals and flip-flops—a perfect excuse for a pedicure and manicure! If you have been saving all winter, treat yourself to a spa/makeover treatment. Remember; know your skin so that you do not over-do or under-do cleansing, exfoliation, or moisturizing.  This way you will be one step ahead of the sun.

The EE 411:

Other ways to prepare your skin for the summer:

  • Hydration- removing sodas from your diet and drinking plenty of water helps keep your skin clear and readies you for the heat.
  • If you live in large city/industrial/or dusty area, keep wipes or hand sanitizer with you to relieve your skin of dirt that can irritate or clog pores.
  • Given that the weather patterns have been little weird, make sure you pay attention to the temperature and dress appropriately.
  • We were serious about a run to the spa or a home mani and pedi! It helps for when you do want to wear those sandals.

Health and Living – The Many Phases of Migraines

Migraine and headache people - Doctor stressed. Woman Nurse / doHey Earth’s Enrichers

Migraines are a common problem for many individuals and can become major hindrances in everyday tasks. One of the first questions is: what is the difference between a normal headache and a migraine.

Headaches tend to be rather easy to get rid of and can be dealt with minor pain meds or reduction of stress.  Migraines, on the other, are a lot more difficult to get rid of as the pain becomes more severe. The best way to stop a migraine is to catch it before it becomes too severe, but how do you know when you have a migraine? Once you get it, how can you stop it?

Migraines can come with the following symptoms:

  • Blurred vision
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea or vomiting , abdominal pain or upset stomach
  • Paleness
  • Sensitivity to light, noises
  • Sensitivity to odor or scents
  • Dizziness
  • Seeing spots or slight distortions
  • Fatigue
  • Fever

A lot of the symptoms vary depending on the individual; not all people with migraines will have light sensitivity or a fever. It’s best if you feel these symptoms coming about to get yourself in a safe place and relax to determine the severity of the oncoming migraine.

Dealing with a migraine can come in many fashions. Some individuals can rest and sleep off the pain. This option may not be plausible for individuals who are always on the go and can’t just stop to rest. There are over the counter pain relievers that are known to help relieve the pain. If they do not work or if you are unsure, it is best to see your doctor or a professional who can give you the best advice on how to deal with the pain.

If you have never experienced a migraine before and suddenly find yourself in a predicament where you can’t relieve the pain, try to pace your breathing. Whatever you do, do not cry because you will put unnecessary tension in the area of the pain and cause it to worsen. Find a friend, family member or coworker to drive you to a hospital or a care facility. It is best to get yourself to a place where professionals can help you ease the pain safely with your health in mind.

The EE 411: The Four Phases

There are four phases to a migraine that help you identify what it is and when it is coming.

The first phase is Prodrome. This can happen one to two days before a migraine and tends to cause small changes in behavior or habits. This can include cravings for certain foods, constipation, depression, hyperactivity, irritability, uncontrollable yawning, and neck stiffness.

The second phase is called Aura. This can happen either before or during a migraine. This can include visual phenomenon (seeing spots, bright spots, or varying shapes), vision loss, pins and needle sensations in the arms and legs, or loss of speech/language function (aphasia).

The third phase is called Attack and this is when the migraine sets in. This can include pain on one or both sides of the head, painful throbbing or pulsating, sensitivity to light and sound or smells, blurred vision, nausea and vomiting, and light headedness.

The fourth phase is called the Postdrome and it occurs after the migraine is over. It is associated with extreme exhaustion or feeling drained. Sometimes people feel mild euphoria.

We hope this information helps you and that it has informed you of the severity of migraines. They are not meant to be taken lightly and anyone who has them should be considered with the utmost care. Please continue to do more research on your own time and remember to do what is best for your body.

Natural Health – Ways to Relieve Skin Irritations

Natural Health- Ways to Relieve Skin IrritationsHey Earth’s Enrichers

In some instances, desperate times can call for desperate measures. What can you do to relieve the temporary discomfort that comes from skin break outs? You know the inflamed, red, itchy areas that happen when we make that one mistake we didn’t need. These cases tend not to be as serious as a visit to the emergency room, but can be as irritating as the day is long.

So this week, Earth’s Enrichers, we will be dedicated to giving you helpful and natural ways to relieve skin irritation. These remedies can be found in your own home and can be helpful when the irritation is not so serious but is far from comfortable. If you find that the irritation is something serious, then it’s best to contact a professional or doctor before taking any further action.

In weather that’s, icy and windy, your face or other constantly exposed areas can be subject to harsh elements. To protect your skin from the irritation of the cold, we recommend you moisturize and continue to hydrate your skin throughout the day. Coconut oil and shea butter (which we use to base all of our balms by the way) are great for healing, moisturizing, and revitalizing skin. Keeping your skin clean and moisturized properly everyday will help prevent irritation.

Then again, even when precautions are taken, things can still happen. So, what do you do to ease annoying skin irritation? There is a simple and general tactic to relieve discomfort. The first thing you should not do is constantly mess with or scratch the irritated area; that could make it worse. Not to mention, the dirt and bacteria from your hands could cause contamination.

So, the first step to take is to make sure the irritated area is clean.  Use natural skin sensitive cleansers that contain natural relievers like oatmeal and aloe vera. Using a cold water soaked wash cloth, pat the area gently or place it over the area. Do not scrub the area or leave it wet—pat the area dry with a soft towel. The cool water will help relieve the hotness of irritation temporarily.

Aloe Vera has healing and cooling properties that can soothe irritations. Also, using a cold compress is an alternative. It can reduce swelling and provide temporary relief from the burning irritated skin, there are also properties in oatmeal that can help relieve inflammation. When cleaning or soaking the irritated area, it is best to use cold to lukewarm water. This way you don’t produce more irritation to the affected area or dry it out.

Last but certainly not least, remove anything from that area of the body that could cause irritation. For instance, a tag or piece of clothing that continually comes in contact with that area will cause further irritation. Following this process should help provide some relief for any skin discomfort or irritation. If it doesn’t go away in a timely fashion, we recommend that you seek medical attention to see what the allergenic is or what continues to irritate your skin.

The EE 411:  Skin Irritations – Break Out the Break Out Remedies

Remember, it is important to know your body. Make a note of the things that break you out and cause allergic reactions. It will help save you from future troubles. Once you recognize what irritates your skin, you can have a better assessment of its sensitivities. You will start to develop a profile that helps you select products that benefit you. So, for remedies that can help relieve the annoyance of skin inflammation, redness, and itchiness, please see below:

When looking to reduce redness and inflammation, the following are good options:

Simply place these things on the area until temporary relief is evident. It shouldn’t take longer than a few minutes.

When looking for something to reduce itching and irritation, the following are good choices:

  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Baking soda (a teaspoon add water)
  • Oatmeal
  • Peppermint leaves*
  • Basil leaves*

(*Also, good for bug bites)

Taking controlled amounts of these substances and gently rubbing them on the irritated area should temporally cease the annoyance. Check out other skincare remedies.

Here at EE we do care about your health. If you find that you constantly deal with your skin breaking out, then perhaps you should assess the products you are using. We encourage you to try us and see if our products lead your skin to better results. We make our products with you in mind, so don’t forget we have your back. For a quick start, here are some EE products that contain ingredients that help with relief of irritation, inflammation, and redness.

Health and Living – The Many Faces of Cholesterol

Hey Earth’s Enrichers

??????????????????????????????????Do you know what cholesterol is or what it can do for your body? Remember how we used to say that everything has a good side and a bad side? Well, there are two types of cholesterol that can play different roles in your body. This week we learn about the good and bad roles cholesterol can play in your body.

Before we get into the nitty-gritty of the cholesterol’s good and bad roles, let’s talk about what cholesterol is and what it does. Cholesterol is a type of lipid that is necessary for cell and hormone synthesis. It can help your body produce hormones and help you digest your food.

Cholesterol can be found in animal food products, particularly animal fats. High cholesterol has been associated with high intakes of sugar as well. Like many healthy aspects, too much of one thing can cause problems, so be cautious when consuming high amounts of sugar. Too much cholesterol can lead to many conditions that are not favorable. So, it is best to keep track of your cholesterol levels.

When cholesterol becomes a problem, it is usually because there is too much of it in your body. LDL, also known as bad cholesterol, is lowdensity lipoprotein that carries cholesterol through your blood vessels and arteries. When an individual has too much cholesterol or a high LDL, it can clog the arteries and have adverse health effects such as heart disease. It’s never a good thing to have too much of something in your body. Now, LDL is generally healthy for your body at a balanced level.

Remember, cholesterol isn’t all bad. High density lipoproteins or HDL carry cholesterol to other body parts and through the liver which eliminates the cholesterol from your body. HDL is usually associated with a low risk of heart disease. Cholesterol in general is good for your body, just too much of it can cause health issues. So make sure you have a healthy balance of both HDL and LDL.

Keeping track of your cholesterol is very important because it isn’t the easiest thing to do. If you have never concerned yourself with your cholesterol levels, it may be time to visit your doctor. That way you will know where to start in terms of your cholesterol levels. Don’t be afraid to ask your doctor about any possible concerns. He or She is there to help you understand what exactly your body needs. You owe it to yourself! 🙂

The EE 411: Cholesterol – Need to Know Basis

Cholesterol can build up when an individual eats more calories than necessary. That is one reason why it is so important to eat the right amount each day. Calories should coincide with your daily activity. Their purpose is to give you enough fuel to work through your day. Not having enough calories can slow you down, while having too many could weigh you down. It’s best to try and reach a perfect balance. The best way to do that is enter into healthy eating and physical activity on the daily.

To prevent unnecessary buildup of bad cholesterol (LDL) and minimize its impact try to use discipline when ingesting the following:
● Limit or monitor your intake of carbohydrates
● Limit or monitor alcohol intake
● Also, it is recommended to give up smoking
● Limit or monitor your consumption of fatty foods
● Keep track of your blood sugar
● Exercise, exercise, exercise!
● Monitor your sugar intake

As always we encourage you to do more research and consult your doctor or a professional when it comes to your own personal health needs.

Living Healthy – The Making of a Healthy Diet

Power BreakfastHey Earth’s Enrichers

Let’s talk facts here ladies and gentlemen! The fact is that healthy balanced diets improve the quality of life! Yes, yes they do.

There are some awesome health benefits that come along with taking on healthy eating habits. Just think about it when you balance your diet appropriately, you fashion a disciplined schedule that eliminates over eating and overdoing saturated fats. This combined with a healthy workout plan, you could reduce and keep control of your weight.

Now, when setting up your meal plan, you should eliminate the unhealthy parts of your diet and replace them with healthier options. You are not just eliminating them! Everyone knows what happens when a person stops eating–they get angry. Not eating enough can cause mood swings; not eating right can just give you feelings like the “itis.” Balancing your diet appropriately can help improve your mood.

In all instances your body needs food for energy. Fuel is important for the body to do what is necessary. If you have a car that takes premium gas and some poor unfortunate soul puts in diesel, your car will not run. The same goes for your body it needs premium gold, the good stuff. When you feed it the good stuff, it helps give it enough energy to run, and boost its ability to fight disease. I’m not kidd’n.

Last but certainly not least, with all the healthy choices you are making, you are taking steps to improve your health. Not to mention that all of these benefits are encompassed with physical activity or exercise. Once you have worked with your doctor and established a healthy balance then you are increasing the span of your life. Unhealthy eating especially without minimal physical activity can invite possible health risks. That is why it is important to check with your physician or a health professional annually to check the status of your health.

The EE 411: Cholesterol is a type of lipid that is necessary for cell and hormone synthesis. It can help your body produce hormones and help you digest your food.Guidelines

These are some basic guidelines to you get started with creating a healthy diet:

● Select foods and drinks that don’t contribute extra or unneeded calories. Also, look out for saturated, trans, or added sugars, salt, or alcohol. They are not necessary for health.
● Balance your calorie intake for the amount of activity you have in your daily life. The more energy you are going to expend, the more calories you need. Calories contribute to weight when you’re not working them off.
● Do some sort of physical activity! Take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk to places (park farther away in safe situations), or chose greener ways to get to work.
● Balance your meals with the appropriate food groups. Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are great for maintaining one’s energy and health.
● Choose fiber-rich fruits like Apples (with the skin on them), vegetables, and whole grains.
● Try to consume less than a teaspoon of salt per day. (the biggest challenge of them all!)
● Prepare your food with care.

For more tips on health and nutrition check out Food and Nourishment. Also, to review what you know about Apples. We always encourage you to do more research to help you determine what’s best for you. Until next time! 🙂

Organic Health – Healthy Power Breakfast

Power BreakfastHey Earth’s Enrichers

It’s time for a little talk about the most important meal of the day–breakfast! Ever since you were a kid, your parents always told you about the importance of having a good breakfast. Not only did having it wake you up in the morning, but it also got you ready for the day.

They weren’t lying, breakfast is important to your day because it helps you kickstart your body. It boosts energy by feeding your metabolism. Think about it: you sleep for 7 to 9 hours a night–sometimes even more– and then you wake up. Your body hasn’t had any food put into since dinner. You literally haven’t eaten for about 7 to 9 hours and that’s why it’s so important for your body to begin the day right.

However, what makes a breakfast? Better yet, what makes a healthy breakfast? Around the world breakfast has it’s different elements; it doesn’t always have to be bacon and eggs. It could even be a healthier option sometimes. In some cultures they start out with a cappuccino and something sweet in others, perhaps, the familiar omelet. Now some other kinds of breakfast can be really out of the box like vegemite and toast, or tofu, and rice with various other types of meat.

The point is this- no matter where you come from, breakfast is different for different people depending on geography, food availability and personal preparedness, but there is one thing that should be universal–health. Breakfast, being your most important and crucial meal of the day, should be healthy. Not too sweet or full of other fatty qualities. It should be made of foods that help boost energy and won’t leave you feeling and tired and ready to go back to bed on your way to work.

Off the top of your head, what are some of the most healthy breakfasts that you can think of? Were any of them fruit, oatmeal, cereal, parfaits, eggs, or muffins? It’s all about the decisions you make. For instance, the majority of us all love the bacon! It is the all-too-familiar meat option for breakfast. It doesn’t have to be bad for you, but it can be if you eat too much of it. So, why not switch it up?

Instead of having bacon to go with your whole grain toast and egg, try turkey or tofu bacon. That way you are getting your protein and filling your meat category. It’s as simple as research and proper substitution. Don’t be afraid to try new things.  There are plenty of options out there. Be sure that when you do your research, you look for the healthy choice and also keep your personal health in mind when searching. ^-^

The EE 411: Breakfast – The Game of Substitution

Following is a list of a few healthier options for breakfast:

  • Fruit (with or without Yougurt) smoothies
  • Muffins, bagels, or toast (whole grain usually fills you up)
  • Green tea or orange juice with breakfast instead of coffee
  • Scrambled eggs with your choice of additions, with whole grain toast
  • Fruit salad or parfait
  • Oatmeal with fruits and nuts
  • Bananas
  • Whole grain waffles with fruit of choice
  • Egg sandwich
  • Oatmeal squares or granola bars
  • Whole grain cinnamon french toast with fruit

We always believe it best for you to do your own research especially when it comes with more exotic breakfast options. If you are getting bored with these breakfast options, try looking for other ethnic and cultural options. They may also be healthy decisions and, as always, look out for your best interests–you deserve it!

Organic Health – Healthy Snacks

Large health food selection in white porcelain bowls and dishesHey Earth’s Enrichers

It is the pivotal point of the sports season! Baseball playoffs are underway, Football is in full swing, and Basketball preseason has started. We all know what this means—it’s the season for snacking! It’s time to find snacks that fuel and feed your loyal sports fans throughout the season. However, it’s not time to forget about your loved ones’ health, even if it is sports season. So, to look after your loved ones’ health and their stomachs it’s time to initiate healthy snacking!

Don’t worry, we aren’t going to take away the delicious aspect of the snack. Instead of taking away something we are going to add some qualifications. There are three qualifications, among others, that should help you pick a healthy snack. Of course, there can be other criteria out there for picking healthy food, but we’re focusing on these three.

The first qualification of a healthy snack must coincide with your own health. This means making sure you choose snacks that you are not allergic to, and that do not specifically have a negative effect on your health. For instance, if you have diabetes, do not choose snacks with high concentrations of sugar. Or if your doctor has ordered you to stay away from spicy or other certain types of foods, then do not eat them—no matter how much you like them.

The second qualification of a healthy snack is energy producing.  If you are watching a game, you certainly don’t want to fall asleep on it. So, find snacks that keep you motivated and ready to go. Some examples of snacks that help preserve energy are whole grains, fruit, dried fruits, nuts, and yogurt. Incorporating these into your snacking regimen will help you keep up with game outcomes.

The third qualification of a healthy snack is fat burning. There is no reason to pick up the pounds while your favorite team picks up the ball. You should be burning calories, while your home team burns their opponent! Believe it or not, there are some snacks that help burn fat. These snacks tend not to have a lot of calories in the first place and are easy to burn through.

Fat burning snacks or snacks with small amounts of calories, usually do not take up much room in the stomach. So, it allows you to eat without getting too full or uncomfortable while watching your game. These are also foods like fruits and vegetables.  Though high protein foods like grilled chicken may have a heavier load in calories, they can boost your metabolism and help you burn calories if clean.

All in all, go for snacks that keep you going and healthy. Try not to go for the usual fattening foods that can add on more calories or even contribute negatively to health. We are not saying to never eat those kinds of snacks, but instead use some restraint and add healthier options into the mix. You may like the results and feel a difference as a result of healthy snacking.

The EE 411: Some Snacking Ideas

  1. Peanut Butter and Bananas
  2. Yogurt or parfait cups
  3. Grilled chicken (bites) with a dipping sauce
  4. Almonds, or any kind of nuts or seeds
  5. Popcorn (easy on the butter and salt)
  6. Humus
  7. Turkey clubs
  8. Pretzel chips
  9. Lentil chips/crackers
  10. Granola bars
  11. Fruits: apples, grapes, bananas, oranges, and blueberries
  12. Fresh veggies with favorite dipping sauce
  13. Party Mix
  14. Trail Mix
  15. Shrimp (not deep fried)
  16. Smoked Salmon
  17. Tortillas & Salsa

Healthy Lifestyle – Stress Defined

 ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Hey Earth’s Enrichers, what exactly do you know about stress? On a superficial note, you know stress is uncomfortable, unfavorable, and makes a day seemingly longer than necessary. You know that it can cause tension in the body, which leads to other forms of discomfort like headaches, muscle pains, and even nausea. We already have tools and means of relieving stress but how is stress defined. What is stress? What causes it? What types of stress are there? What are its short-term and long-term effects?  These are things you deserve to know!

What is stress?

Stress is the reaction the body has to being thrown off its homeostasis (balanced) network. It can have mental effects, which affect a person’s ability to function in everyday tasks. It can be a temporary but reoccurring state of the body. It can corrupt a person’s ability to deal with daily issues because the problem solving function is being corrupted by unfavorable distractions. It can also have physical effects on the body. These effects are usually unintentional on your behalf because you are not purposely causing your body pain. For instance, have you ever noticed yourself grinding your teeth or all of a sudden your neck starts to hurt out of the blue. This could be attributed to stress.

What causes stress?

In simplest terms, stress can be caused by stressors.  These could be anything from a certain individual to an accumulation of tiresome or irritating events. Anxiety can also play a big role in causing stress. In response to that stress, the body has what is called a stress response (go figure). These are mental, physical, or behavioral changes that take place because of the stressor.

What types of stress are there?

To be more specific about the type of stressors and what may cause stress, eustress and distress are two different types of stress. Eustress are stressors that are positive and promote improved quality in different aspects of life. Distress is not all that great, this is caused by negative stress.  This can be counterproductive and harmful.

What are short term and long term effects of stress?

Stress can cause short-term and long-term effects on the body. These effects vary on individual health. Some examples of short-term effects are migraines (headaches), backaches, neck aches, mood swings, and hyperventilation. Chronic stress, which is stress that can be detrimental to your health, can have serious long-term effects. These effects could range from heart disease, chronic pain, depression, and even reduction in the body’s resistance to diseases. It could worsen already existing illness as well like MS, blood pressure, and anxiety.

The EE 411: Stress – Looking After Your Environment

Now that you have a deeper understanding of what stress is and its effects, it’s time to apply some solutions to stress situations:

  • Laughter goes a long way- find your favorite comedy, or check out your favorite comical blog. It will help you relax because laughter releases endorphins into the body.
  • Detox- select a nice time of the day and produce a comfortable environment for yourself. For example, if you like long baths, you should take one.  Include in your bath water bath salts. Not only will the bath salts relax and release tension from your body, but the scent that they provide is also good aromatherapy which de-stresses the mind.  If you’re more of an active person, turn on your favorite music and jam. Make space for me time!
  • Re-evaluate your work load making sure you can physically and mentally handle everything you sign up for. If you can’t, it may be time to let some things go for your own benefit.
  • Take some time to do yoga and meditate; it can help you make time to think about the next few steps in your life.
