New Year, New Healthier You

Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Goals for 2017
Goals for 2017

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a good time bidding 2016 goodbye. It was filled with a lot of great memories, learning experiences, and moments that some of us would like to forget. Nevertheless, 2016 is now history and 2017 is here! Time for New Year’s Resolutions and a better, healthier you!

We are serious about healthier beginnings here at EE. We would like to personally welcome you to the New Year with a challenge. We challenge you to start this year off right with healthier decisions whether it’s better fitness, nutrition, skin care, financial health, and/or better stress management.

Health is a broad subject and doesn’t just limit itself to what is put on or in your body. Being healthy means finding a perfect balance between your soul, environment, mind, and body. So make sure you take the time you need for you! When your environment starts to get too overwhelming and your soul, mind and body can’t take it anymore, center yourself with meditation, music, a vacation, or treat yourself to a nice massage (*whispers* You deserve it).

On the other hand, what you put in and on your body is still very important, so EE also challenges you to read labels and look up ingredients you can’t pronounce. Research how those ingredients could affect your health. Start taking the all-natural and organic route because it can be the better option—or at least try it… it doesn’t hurt to try it.

Last but not least, the most important we think, take the time to LAUGH! We said it, laugh. Humor can be the fix for almost any problem. Take a moment and listen to your favorite comedian, google some memes, read a comic strip or something. A good giggle is good for you, it’s practically science. Okay, maybe not science but it does help relieve stress and diffuse tense situations.

I think those are all the challenges we have for you today. Remember the gist—we challenge you to find a nice healthy balance between your mind, body, environment and soul. Take some you time if needed and sneak in some giggles daily to relieve stress. Also, try new things like all-natural and organic options, which can be better for you!!!

USDA Organic Lip Balms

Organic Lip Balms

Hey Earth’s Enrichers

USDA Organic Lip Balms
USDA Organic Lip Balms

USDA Organic Lip Balms are a must have as the fall and winter weather quickly approaches.  When the weather dries and the body starts to become thirsty or slightly dehydrated, the lips can start to become chapped and dry. It is important to stay hydrated and moisturize your skin, including having an USDA Organic lip balm and practicing healthy lip care.

We at EE narrowed down two main ingredients that we use in our USDA Organic lip balm that are sure to provide your lips with the nourishment they need. These ingredients are coconut oil and shea butter, which are well known for providing protection for your skin.

Coconut oil is a moisturizer that does more than hydrate your skin; it helps repair dry and damaged skin. Peeling, flaking, or rashes can be healed with regular usage. When lips are dry, they tend to peel and flake, which can cause pain or discomfort.

Coconut oil works great on other parts of your skin, so why not put it on your lips? It would leave them smooth and protect them from any sun damage as well—another grand benefit of coconut oil!

Shea butter and coconut oil are the perfect match when it comes to creating a fusion base for a lip balm. Shea butter is a natural moisturizer and it is great for soothing the skin, after the coconut oil regenerates and heals the skin, the shea butter maintains your lips silkiness and nourishes them. Also, just like coconut oil, shea butter can protect against aggressions like wind, cold, and sun making them a great team when it comes to lip care.

The EE 411:

Please welcome Lemongrass Mint, Honey VanillaCoconut Chai and Naturally Nude USDA Organic lip balms. These lip balms have the coconut oil and shea butter fusion base. However, there are some other awesome ingredients in these lip balms that are dedicated to healthy lip care.

In Lemongrass Mint, we added lemongrass and peppermint. Peppermint helps nourish your skin, while lemongrass helps ward off skin infections or fungus, which is great protection to have for your lips. Just think, how many times do your fingers, writing utensils, or other foreign things touch your lips?

Honey Vanilla is made with vanilla and honey. Not only does it produce a great aroma, but these ingredients are also great for your skin. Vanilla can help reduce stress and prevents the damaging of skin cells. It also helps improve skin tones. It can boost your lips’ natural color. Then honey swoops in with the protection. It helps protect your skin from harmful sun rays and also helps hydrate your lips.

Coconut Chai has a sizzling cinnamon flavor. Cinnamon helps bring various nutrients to the surfaces of your skin. Not to mention, it has an invigorating fragrance.

Last but certainly not least, Natural Nude takes you back to the basics while giving you everything you need. This unscented and unflavored organic lip balm is great for sensitive lips. It will leave your lips soft, supple and moisturized.

Organic Bath Soak (USDA)

Organic Bath Soak (USDA)

Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Organic Bath Soak (USDA)
Organic Bath Soak (USDA)

We would like to reintroduce you to our Calming Spa Seaweed, Lavender of the Valley, and Lemon Fresh Shea organic bath soak. For those of you who haven’t really used bath salts, this week’s blog is for you.

What are Organic Bath Soaks (Salts)?

Bath salts are crystallized substances that dissolve in bath water. They are usually scented to enhance your bath experience.  It’s like a form of aromatherapy.  Bath Salts also have many healthy beneficial properties for your skin.

What are the benefits of Organic Bath Soaks (Salts)?

Aromatherapy can come in many different forms whether it is incense or candles, but bath salts are also another means. Bath salts can come in a variety of scents like Lavender and Lemon. These aromas are chosen based on the intended mood the individual wants to create when bathing. Lavender is an excellent relaxant and if the intention is to create a relaxing bath experience, we recommend Lavender.

Not only does it create a wonderful aroma but that aroma also leaves you smelling great when you leave the bath. It can make your skin feel smooth and soft. This happens because of the natural minerals in salt that cleanse your pores and leave your skin feeling fresh.

Why People use Organic Bath Soak (Salts)?

People use bath salts to help them get the spa experience at home. They provide a means of relaxation, aromatherapy, and deep cleansing for your skin. They nourish skin and help break down and demolish the toxins in your pores. Afterwards leaving your skin is left feeling baby smooth, fresh, and smelling great!

We recommend you give Bath Salts a try and see how you like them. If you are ever in need of a relaxing experience and don’t have time to go to the spa, try Calming Spa Seaweed Bath Salts. Or if you have had a rough day and don’t feel like dealing with much else, run a hot bath and drop in some Lavender of the Valley Bath Salts. They will relax you and erase the stress of your day. Also, the hotter humid weather is upon us and after a long hot and sweaty day, try Lemon Fresh Shea. Each of these fragrances will help you skin glow and feel luxurious.

The EE 411:

Organic bath soak helps clean and remove impurities of the skin, while leaving your skin feeling silky smooth and regenerated. Bath Salts contain minerals and nutrients that aid in creating that smooth, fresh feeling. When selecting bath salts, look for ones that don’t contain unnatural preservatives or chemicals.  Look for labels that read organic or have the USDA logo on it. Also, do your research. Don’t bathe with them unless you know what’s in it. Our organic bath soak contain premium sea salts and certified organic oils and  organic powders.

As far as the benefits of natural minerals here’s a quick fact for you. It may also help you choose your next vacation spot. As you know by now, sea salts have natural minerals that help make the skin healthy. There are minerals similar to this that can be found in natural baths like the Japanese Onsen, which also leave your body feeling relaxed and satisfied.

These baths are usually created and heated by natural hot springs. Bathing in these hot springs introduces your body to nutrients and minerals that can also help keep your skin healthy, and help with joint pain. The heat of the spring can help alleviate (not cure) stiffness and aches. It’s a natural way of pain relief.

This is an exciting bathing experience. It provides skin benefits that are similar to the skin benefits in the bath salts minerals. If you have free time, look up this experience and do your own research. You may find out it’s something you want to try.

Shea Butter Body Balms

Body Balms (USDA Organic)

Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Shea Butter Body Balms (USDA Organic)Shea Butter Body Balms

We hope that you are enjoying this beautiful weather! As more fall like days quickly approach and the temperature starts to drop, we have to ask, what do you put on your skin to keep it nourished and moisturized? Are you a lotion person or a shea butter body balm person?

What are Shea Butter Body Balms?

You do know the difference between lotions and body balms, right? Lotion, of course, moisturizes but it is not as thick or as creamy as a body balm. Lotions are made of oils and water. Body balms are much more dense and contain less water and more oil.

Why People use Shea Butter Body Balms?

One of body balm’s primary purposes is to moisturize skin effectively in a way that lotion cannot moisturize. The lotions you use may contain too much water and may not be giving your skin the level of moisturizing it needs.

Since body balms contain less water, they have enough of the proper oils to nourish the skin. When an individual applies lotion and it takes a good glob or handful of lotion to effectively nourish your skin, then a body balm may be what you need. It takes less than a big glob and can be used on the legs, face, arms, and feet.

Now, lotion is not all bad, but it is more convenient for you and healthier for your skin if you know how much moisturizer to apply. Lotion may not be enough to help you reach smooth, nourished, and moisturized skin. Also, it’s troublesome when you have too much of the lotion in your hands. Have you ever put too much lotion in your hands and looked for someone or something to wipe it on? Confess up!

Not to mention that wasting the lotion is kind of like losing money. Body balms usually come in a jar like ours. That way if you take too much you can just put it back in the jar and close the lid. Also, it is important to be careful when using dense oils to moisturize your skin, especially if you have naturally oily skin. Too much oil can cause break outs. So, use dense moisturizers responsibly.

What are the benefits of Body Balms?

If used appropriately, body balms can have many great effects on the skin. It’s a means of moisturizing your skin without suffocating it. They also give your skin a natural glow and make it more vibrant.

Body balms also come in many different fragrances. Each scent can come with its on benefits based on the ingredients that are used. For instance, here at EE we have three different scents: Lemon Fresh Shea, Calming Spa Seaweed, and Lavender of the Valley.  We also have an unscented body balm called Naturally Nude.

Before we go into the individual benefits, there are three main shared ingredients that we use in our balms. These ingredients produce the basic benefits of each balm. The three ingredients are sunflower oil, shea butter, and coconut oil. Sunflower oil helps the skin regenerate, reducing scars, improving aged skin, and has vitamins A, D, and E, while Coconut oil prevents the skin from flaking, helps with rashes, and protects against sun damage. Shea butter is a natural moisturizer that soothes the skin and helps protect it from elemental radicals like the wind and sun.

In EE’s Lemon Fresh Shea Body balm, we have other ingredients like lemongrass which wards off infections and fungus. In Calming Spa Seaweed, there are ingredients like seaweed and rosemary mint. Seaweed helps protect and nourish the skin while increasing blood circulation and combating inflammation. Rosemary mint soothes the skin and relieves any itch or irritation. It also is great for nasal and respiratory problems. In Lavender of the Valley, there is lavender which helps you relax and has gentle healing benefits.  The ingredients in Naturally Nude are great for sensitive skin and for individuals who are sensitive to varies scents and fragrances.  We invite you to try them and see which one is to your liking.

The EE 411:

As you all know, we encourage you to try things that are good for your health, not just for your skin but your overall wellness. In order to effectively maintain good health, it is important to know what is best for your body.

Body balms are great for the skin, but they must be used wisely and appropriately. Pay attention to where your body prefers deeper moisturizers. If skin on parts of your body produce more oils than others, keep it duly noted. You do not want to over burden your skin with oils.

Also, if you find that some places are more likely to become dry, then it may be the primary spot you want to apply the body balm. If used excessively without proper hygiene, the oils in the body balm could clog the pores. That is why it is important to know how much is too much for your skin and maintain your body’s cleanliness. That way you and your body know and have a proper balance.

Suntans & Sunburns

Sunburns and Suntans
Sun tanning in sun hat and sunglasses.

Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Suntans v. Sunburns.  As we all know very well, the sun is a power tool and a reason for vacation. The sun, family, fun, ocean—all blissful motivations for going to the beach—but our point is that with the sun and the beach comes sand, tans and sunburns!

So how do you know you’re prepared for a tan and how do you know when your tan becomes sunburn. The first thing to take into consideration is the fairness of your skin—lighter skin burns more easily. So in addition to the general tips we give you, take extra precautions if you’re a member of the lighter complexion.

With that being said, what is a suntan? A suntan is a browning of skin caused by exposure to the sun. This is similar to the cooking of a rotisserie chicken, so if you leave the chicken in there too long, it burns. The really cool nerdy part of a suntan is basically the stimulation of melanocytes from UV radiation, which encourages your skin to produce more melanin and darkens pigment.

Isn’t it neat how your skin reacts to the environment? We think it’s pretty extraordinary—a tan done right can produce beautifully golden skin and wonderful result. The best thing to do at that point is to keep it moisturized and clean.

Now, without proper protection and staying in the rotisserie oven too long, a sunburn could be produced. A sunburn occurs when there is a delayed reaction from UV B-erythema, which is caused by an increase in blood flow. The burn usually shows itself in at least 4 hours and peaks between 8 to 24 hours. In other words, in some cases the skin doesn’t take well to the UV and doesn’t absorb it properly. It requires extra protection to not burn in a lot of sun.  On the other hand, if your skin isn’t regularly exposed to the sun, it weakens the skin’s ability to handle the sun. Therefore, completely hiding your skin from the sun isn’t good for health either.  Your body needs vitamin D that the sun provides. So try to find a health balance.

Symptoms of Sunburns:

  1. Redness of skin.
  2. Skin may radiate heat and feel hot to touch.
  3. Pain or tenderness.
  4. Blistering and peeling skin.
  5. Sunburned eyes may feel painful or gritty.
  6. Headache, fever and fatigue if sunburn covers a large area.
  7. In severe cases, faintness, nausea, and vomiting.

The EE 411: Prevention and Best Suntan Practices

Prevention-

  • Sunscreen/sun block
  • Sun hats and caps
  • Umbrellas and beach umbrellas
  • Aloe Vera (helps soothe pain and redness)
  • Find shade
  • Try to avoid prolonged exposure to direct the sun between 10am and 4pm when it’s at its strongest.
  • Sunglasses
  • Loosely fitting clothing

Best Suntan Practices:

  • Always apply suntan or sunblock according to the directions provided. If it says last for 80 minutes and you’re going to be in the sun for 160 minutes, please reapply after the first 80 mins. It is advisable to look after your skin’s safety.
  • Putting up an umbrella on a beach is practically as fashionable as wearing a hat and it’s healthy too. Even use it while walking like if you forgot your sunscreen, you may look silly but your skin will be protected.
  • Wearing sunglasses helps protects your eyes from the sun because they can be damaged by the sun too.
  • Avoid prolonged direct exposure to the sun during the hottest parts of the day which is between 10 am and 4 pm. Go out early mornings and evenings, if you can’t take extra precaution for your type of skin.
  • If burned, do not exfoliate or pick at your skin—it will come off on its own. Gently cleanse and moisturize. If especially painful, try aloe vera to help cool your sunburns.

Skin Rejuvenation

Skin Rejuvenation

Hey Earth’s Enrichers

Rejuvenation, revitalization, and renewal the three best “R’s” that any person likes to hear when picking a skin care product. Think about it.  How about a product with properties that can help bring the life and color back to your skin? Not magic, just organic ingredients that come with certain benefits, of course.

For instance, we use ingredients like aloe vera, coffee, and shea butter, etc. that contain properties that aid in skin repair and help restore your skin’s natural tone. With the addition of these ingredients, we have made skin care products that not only protect your skin, but protect your good looks as well!

Take a moment and imagine yourself on the beach: you begin your day with a nice shower/bath with Fresh Ground Java, which is filled with vanilla and grind coffee beans imbued with the ability to help improve skin tone and perk up your skin. The next step is the swim suit, then sunscreen, and now you’re ready for a tan in the sand! How wonderful is it to know that before you tan naturally you were rejuvenating and restoring your skin organically. Now, that’s a sweet deal if you ask us!

The EE 411: Better Skin Practices for Skin Rejuvenation

Blemishes and random discoloration on the skin tend to be hidden by makeup, which, if not done properly, can clog pores in the skin. Instead of just covering up the blemishes and moving on, why not try natural and organic remedies to help renew your skin tone?

Nothing works overnight and sometimes remedies don’t work the same for everyone– all we ask is that you give it a try or even consult a professional to inquire about some natural remedies which contain properties that support skin rejuvenation and revitalization.

Here are a few of those natural/organic ingredients we use to aid in skin care:

  • Coffee: reduces cellulite, protects against aging and skin damage, and also acts as an exfoliant.
  • Vanilla: guards against damage of skin cells and improves skin tone.
  • Cocoa Butter: fades blemishes and hydrates skin.
  • Aloe Vera: heals dry skin, stimulates cell growth, aids and repairs damaged tissue, and treats various skin conditions such as burns and eczema.
  • Cinnamon: exfoliates and assists with the drying of acne

There are many other natural and organic ingredients that we use to help look after your skin and your good looks. Under each product we list our ingredients and their benefits for you. Our transparency is for your benefit, you deserve to know all the ingredients that you use on your skin!

Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Skin Cancer AwarenessHey Earth’s Enrichers

I hope you all did something really special for your mamas! They are really special ladies and deserve the VIP treatment. Mother’s day isn’t the only thing May has to offer. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Skin Cancer Awareness month!

That’s right; make room next to the pink and red ribbons for orange (skin cancer) and black (melanoma skin cancer) ones. Take a moment for the many that suffer from this ailment—pray, wish, dance, whatever your heart and faith desires for them to get better!

Now, for those of you who are unfamiliar with skin cancer, EE will help break it down to you. Now, don’t freak yourselves out! Having some of the signs we researched doesn’t necessarily mean you have skin cancer. However, as we always say, make sure you consult an expert if you have serious concerns—it never hurts to seek professional advice, do what’s best for you!

Melanoma is a form of skin cancer that usually starts in the lowest layer of the epidermis or skin. It usually comes in forms of irregular or abnormal mole-looking blotches. These mole-like blotches are tumors and can be tremendously detrimental to your health.

Although non-melanoma skin cancer isn’t as aggressive or deadly as melanoma skin cancer, it still isn’t good for your skin. It can also come in blotches or dry patches that can damage the skin area in which it is present.

The EE 411: Skin Cancer Protection Tips for the Summer Sun

Although unnecessarily long exposures to harmful UV light and rays can cause skin cancer, less exposure to Vitamin D (or sun) can increase the risk of melanoma. When preparing for your beach getaway, it is essential to have everything you need for your day in the sun:

1.Sunscreen (SPF minimum 30)

2.Water

3.Swim Shoes/Flip Flops (protection for your feet)

4.Sun Visor or (fashionable) Beach Hat (wink, wink)

5.Sunglasses

The common factor in all of these items is skin protection. That way you can achieve safe happiness and a stunning tan all in the same day.

As far as skin cancer, please feel free to do more research and learn the means and methods of this ailment. EE has brought a limelight to this skin cancer awareness segment, but we have not answered all of the questions. Cancer is a complex and difficult disease and it is important to not take it lightly—at the same time, don’t let it overcome you! As always, do what’s best for you and consult an expert with any concerns.

Chocolate (Dark) and Anxiety

Dark Chocolate
Dark Chocolate

Hey Earth’s Enrichers

It’s been a while, Earth Enrichers! How have you been? Well, we’ve been great and we have put together some new and interesting stuff for you. This week’s topic is dedicated to chocolate. Yes, we said it, CHOCOLATE. But not just any kind. We’re going to be discussing something revolutionary about the world’s most loved but underappreciated dark chocolate.

Why do we say dark chocolate is loved but sometimes unappreciated? Well, it has some amazing health benefits but it tends not to be the first choice for a common snack. Most would lean towards dark chocolate’s creamier counterpart milk chocolate, which is, in essence, not all that great for you. Now, dark chocolate on the other hand has some pretty nifty health benefits and uses.

For instance, it is known for being very good for the heart. In fact, in small doses it can lower blood pressure because it can improve the flow of blood in your arteries. With the increase of blood flow through the arteries and heart, it makes it easier for the brain to function. This can help prevent strokes…not to mention that there’s a supply of antioxidants per every deliciously rich bite.

Guys, if you haven’t tried dark chocolate, we’d recommend you give it a whirl. It couldn’t hurt! It might actually be good for you.

The EE 411: Dark Chocolate and Anxiety

There have been studies that show that dark chocolate can help relieve stress and anxiety. You see, it can release serotonin which relieves stress. In some cases, it can also give you that much needed woosah moment. You say you want more proof? As if serotonin is not enough, chocolate is also responsible for being a mood raiser. Theobromine, the stuff in chocolate that dogs are allergic to, is responsible for creating positive vibes. We don’t know about you, but dark chocolate is starting to look even better already.

(To also help relieve stress and anxiety try our Lavender of the Valley USDA Organic Skin Care Collection).
